NDT and breakfast

Hi this crossed my mind this morning as I took my NDT with water and waited for my breakfast . If I take NDT sublingually would I still have to wait an hour before eating anything ? Or is this wishful thinking? Thanks in advance

NDT can be taken sublingually. Just make sure it's crushed up properly.

Molesnail8,

The T4 and T3 molecules in NDT are too large to be absorbed sublingually. A member contacted RLC Labs who manufacture NatureThroid and WP and was advised the tablets were designed to be swallowed with water and absorbed via the gut.

Thanks for that, I take NDT from Thailand, and I guess water is the best option for that too. ! I will have to be more patient. Thank you for the clarification. X

Molesnail8,

Some people set the alarm an hour before they need to get up and take thyroid replacement then so they can have breakfast when they rise. Alternatively, you can take NDT 2 hours after breakfast.

Isn't sublingual absorption intended exclusively for drugs with practically immediate effect, such as drugs for angina pectoris where the pain will subside within minutes of letting a pill melt under the tongue? Thyroid hormones are not supposed to act that quickly (and quick effect logically means a quick loss of effect), so I believe that Clutter and others are right and that NDT is not intended to be taken that way. I don't think there is any harm taking in it sublingually, just that you might end up absorbing most if not all of it from your gut anyway...

Also, if NDT was indeed intended to be taken sublingually, that would logically apply to all thyroid hormone drugs, wouldn't it...? However, I have never heard of anyone taking synthetic T3 or T4 that way.

Thanks for the information, I'm sure I read somewhere about taking NDT sublingually but it was ages ago. You know what it's like when reading tons of stuff. Anyway it's water all the way, thanks for the imput.
