Blood tests for Hypothyroidism

Hi all,

Really cannot understand my doctor when I go for blood tests as all they sent me for is Serum TSH LEVEL.

I automatically thought that I would be tested like last time .

Nope. My first test was T4 7.2 , SERUM TSH Level 21.9. So started 50mg Levo.

Had another test late in day all that was tested was Serum TSH, came back

1.8 mu/L 0.30-6.00mu/L

Wasn't happy as Bloods to late in day. So had another other day . Did not take my Levo and Bloods came back as Serum TSH 1.5 .

Changing Doctors as of now, as I still get palpitations, anxiety and flustered . Also Bad headaches etc etc.

I know this is not a full report but is 1.5 normal ?? Thanks in advance 😀

You need to know results for TSH, FT4 AND FT3. NHS almost never do FT3

Do you also have high thyroid antibodies? You need to know. Did GP test these? If not ask that they are tested.

If antibodies are high this is Hashimoto's, (also known by GP as autoimmune thyroid disease). About 90% of hypothyroidism in UK is due to Hashimoto's.

Hashimoto's very often affects the gut, leading to low stomach acid, low vitamin levels and leaky gut.

Low vitamins that affect thyroid are vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12. Important to test these. If they are too low they stop Thyroid hormones working. Have these been tested, if not ask that they are. Always get actual results and ranges.

If you can't get full thyroid and vitamin testing from GP

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.

All thyroid tests should be done as early as possible in morning and fasting and don't take Levo in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take straight after.

Thanks SlowDragon,

Serum TSH is all the Doctor asked for. Nothing else was on my Print off. She seems to think if your TSH is satisfactory that's all you need.

Even asked for my results for pre op , full blood count, secretary said I can't have it. 😮
