I am currently taking vit d and k2. I need to add magnesium. Perhaps should have added 2 years ago. My legs are weak - don't know muscles or bones or both. I was severely vit d deficient in late 2015. I was given vit d by doctors but nothing else with it. Before I could do any research, I was lost into a several months long phase of overactive thyroid caused by thyroid inflammation.
So my legs gone weaker and weaker. I lost my ability to kneel or squat. I want to regain this ability but don't know how. GPs won't help. I can't fold my legs. It hurts a lot. This loss of Mobility causes me stress everyday. I do light exercise everyday to stay in the loop. NHS Physio last year was of no help.
GP said my case does not qualify for a consultation with an orthopedic doctor although I want an expert to see if there is something specific gone wrong inside my knee joints.
I want to introduce magnesium into my regime now to see if it will help.
Which type is the best in my case. I understand they have different uses. Oxide, citrate or bisglycinate?
What should I go with and how much.
Thank you

My symptoms sound exactly the same. I have no strength in my thighs/glutes which makes walking painful. I've been referred to podiatry and have insoles in both feet. I've had another lapse and am seeing a counsellor tomorrow. I'll be watching your post closely.
Good luck! I am ok with walking. My problem is in squatting and kneeling and fully folding my legs. So I can't sit on the floor or get up from the floor without a lot of support from my arms. I don't think knee arthritis is my issue though.
What's the reason of you loosing strength in your legs?
No idea! Very strange. Muscle wastage? Back issues? I had soft tissue massage on my left hip where most of the pain radiates. Even after that I had only 10 degrees movement. Physio said there must be a reason it tightens up so quickly. I can't tie laces like normal people do I have to get on all fours to get down on the floor and can't get up without using my arms or a chair. I teach year 1 so work is a real struggle. And thinning eyebrows! 😩
I am sure being a teacher and in such position must be hard. I can visualise it clearly. I end up in such situations everyday. That's why I am stressed.
I don't see it as all that difficult. You can instantly dismiss the three listed under Worst Forms.
Of the Best Forms - do you need help with bowels? If not then discount magnesium citrate. Do you have cardiovascular issues? If not then discount magnesium taurate. Do you suffer from fatigue! If so then magnesium malate is a good choice. Just go through them all and decide which would suit you best.
My level of vit d (my first deficiency diagnosed 2 years ago) was 89 nmol/L six weeks ago. I am taking 2000 iu everyday. I know I did not take magnesium but I have ordered it now and will start taking it soon.
Not only that my legs don't have the correct strength to walk upstairs but also that the bone to the side of knees hurts (top of shin). Pain comes and goes for few seconds and then settles down. Do you think my bones could still be weak after nearly 2 years. I have been taking k2 mk7 with my vitamin d for last 6 months at least (Jarrow 90 MCG softgels, 1 a day).
My serum calcium was fine when diagnosed with d deficiency but I believe it would have been taken out of bones for the blood, wouldn't it?
Could my bone pain and weak legs (don't know bones or muscles or both) be because of Vit D, still?
Sorry activelazy I'm really not qualified to answer that question.
Try to get your Vit D level to the upper end of the level recommended by the Vit D Council, which is 100-150nmol/L. It's where I try to keep mine, my maintenance dose is 2000iu daily.
Epsom salt baths are another alternative. These give you a large dose of magnesium through the skin. I use it to give me a boost at times when pain is building up. It also helps with sleep, and I find myself barely able to move afterwards.
I have magnesium flakes and sometimes have a bath in it. I have used Epsom salts as well.
Bath is also something that I did not use to like but now I do😁.
I didn't like it because it's such a slow procedure. My brain never fit in with slow processing stuff, and still does not.
That's another stress that I have. I have always been quite fast in my doing things whatever it be- shower, shopping, cooking, gardening, cleaning, whatever. There is no sync between my nature / brain speed and my physical speed. I am learning to make them meet at a point of equilibrium. I will probably never be as fast or half fast of what I used to be 2 years ago.
