Hi im just rhinking about my doc apps tomorrow. As you know ive been on carbimazole 20mgs one a day for 4 weeks now and had my 2nd lot of bloods taken which showed my tsh still very supressed but freet3 and free4 are levelling out but i still feel hyper but not as shaky and palpy and panick attacks are getting fewer etc.i dont have any trust in docs and that he will make a correct decision, i know its early days and i want to be prepared for whats going to happen tomorrow dont want the wool pulled over my eyes by a incompedent doctor, dreading him saying you have to come of it when ive only just started. Sorry to be pain in neck again.havent even seen endoc yet.

Rmichelle,

I've told you previously that patients are usually on Carbimazole 9-18 months to regulate thyroid levels. Your TSH is still suppressed so despite FT4 and FT3 having dropped into normal range it would be extraordinary if your GP took you off Carbimazole after 4 weeks and before you've seen an endocrinologist.

Hi clutter wasnt being disrespectful towards your answer previously, its just that my docs are useless and want to make sure rhey dont fob me off, im on 20 mgs and the doc will probably reduce it significantly,as they have no idea. If my tsh level is 00.5 what is a ideal level? Is it 1.x

Rmichelle,

I didn't think you were being disrespectful to me. I doubt your GP will reduce dose. Why would s/he? As you have no confidence in your GP why don't you change doctor or practice?

TSH between 0.4 - 1.5 is likely to be ideal.

Just think that they dont know much and didnt have a clue about the dosage to be given before starting carbi. Is the aim to raise my tsh slightly with carbi ?

Rmichelle,

There's no reason why your GP should know what dose Carbimazole to start you on. Hyperthyroidism is managed in endocrinology. Until you get an endo appointment your GP probably has to consult with endocrinologist re thyroid levels and dose.

The aim is to regulate your thyroid levels so that FT4 and FT3 are within range. Eventually TSH should recover and be within range too but it sometimes remains suppressed and doesn't recover.

Clutter they should knowvbut i remember him saying to me "em what dose shall i start you on 10 or 20mgs? What do you think. Can you see my dilemma now? I have just received phone call from hospital to say i have got my app at hospital back. 3rd october.x

Rmichelle,

I don't see that as a dilema. Dosing is as much an art as a science, a certain amount of guesstimating is always done. You obviously have no confidence in your GP though so you should think about switching to someone you will have more confidence in.

I'm glad your endo appt has been reinstated.

You might find they increase the carb. I had four weeks on 20mcg carb. I was never tested for T4 (labs know best it seems!!!!) my T4 improved a bit but my TSH stayed exactly where it was. I wasn't due to see my endo for another two months but she must have been sent the test results because she wrote to me and told me to increase my carb to 40mcg a day. I took that for the next two months - ended up quite hypo but that's a different story.

If your TSH is still the same after four weeks on 20mcg and you still have hyper symptoms, I think it might be more likely that they will increase the carbimazole I can't see them stopping it, I could be wrong, I'm only gong by my own personal experience.

Best of luck tomorrow.

I must lucky my GP has been amazing. Once the blood test came back confirming I was hyperactive my GP phoned the Endo clininc to get advice as to what doseage of Carbimazole to put me on, I've had regular blood tests and when I was found to be going hypo again my doctor got advice and my dose was lowered ...I've been to my first Endo appointment and my dose has been lowered again. My second appointment at the Endos is in November.

Having realised this disease has no quick fix I take every day I feel good as a bonus.

I do hope you find the answer you're looking for soon

Hiya hattersteapar. You are very fortunate. Doc said today cant alter dosage and i see specialist in 2 weeks, however he has requested thyroid ultrsound now. So at moment still on 20mgs carbi, you have a good doctor there as most people will say docs are useless. Is your user name hatters teaparty from alice in wonderland? My favourite book and film.!!🌻

Hi Rmichelle, yes my name is from Alice in Wonderland, I love an artist called Peter Smith he has done a series of Alice lost in wonderland....

I hope you get the answers you need when you see the endo. it's such a lottery of who you get. To be honest I trust my doctor more than the Endo I saw 1st time
