NDT dosage question

I have a more general question: the fact that no manufacturer of NDT makes more than 5 grain pills, and most of them no more than 3 grain pills, does this mean that no hypothyroid patient is ever supposed to take more than 3 or, exceptionally, 5 grains of NDT...?

Anna69,

I should think it's more likely to mean that it isn't cost effective to produce doses greater than 3 or 5 grains.

Meaning nobody (normally) needs more than this...?! Because I've been feeling really great on 6 grains, although it's making my GP freak out because my TSH is <0...FTs in range, BTW.

Anna69,

Meaning not enough people need more than 3 or 5 grains to make it worth manufacturing them. GPs don't like suppressed TSH.

So I've noticed...thank you for this post, very informative:-)

TSH is supposed to be suppressed if taking a form of T3. FT4 an fall to halfway down the range and FT3 should be high in the range. Only the FT3 results is accurate.

Yes, that's what I've noticed as well...impossible to maintain a "normal" (in range ) TSH on any form of T3, and only FT3 levels seem to matter once on NDT (or synthetic T3).

Not what you're looking for?
