NDT update 1, also weight query

So I finally started on NDT on Friday, I'm currently having 75 Levo and half a grain of NDT in the morning and half a grain of NDT at night. I already feel like I have a bit more energy (hoping that isn't in my head). I also weighed myself on Friday and I was 11 stone 13lb (I'm 5ft 8 and before my thyroidectomy I was always 10st 10lb), I've just weighed myself now and after 3 days I've lost 5 pound, something I have struggled to do since my op. Is this normal for weight loss to happen so fast?

It can be 'fluid' that's been reduced to give you the weight loss. Our weight gain isn't always due to food but to the build up of Mucin which used to be a tell-tale sign to doctors that we were hypothyroid.

You will see from the link below we've had quite a few posts:-

Doctors know little and berate their patients for 'eating too much' because the are unaware of any clinical symptoms.

Sorry to be really stupid but what is Mucin? Thanks for your response 😊

it is a 'fluid-like - jelly like' substance that can gather under our skin. Greygoos has given an explanation in the above link. Excerpt:

Absolutely true. The point about mucin is that it collects under the skin, attached to the skin, and holds water. Fat is not attached to the skin, so you can pinch it up. The only place on my body where I can pinch up the skin is on the backs of my hands. And I'm not even that much over-weight anymore.

Great, thank you. I hope this is what it is and I'm back to my normal weight sooner than I thought 🤞

I think you will be. Also people who are given thyroid hormone replacements and gain weight, their GPs usually stop increasing dose when they reach somewhere in range and cannot lose it through diet etc. When their dose is increased to optimum the weight drops.

Whoops looks like the scales were wrong as they told me today I'd lost another stone. Bought some new ones and I'm actually 12st 6, so nearly two stone weight gain since my op 8 months ago....nearly died 😩
