Three weeks on NDT...

Well three weeks on NDT. Taking 5 grain a day, still falling asleep in the day. Sometimes Im taking a 20mcg of T3 just to boost my energy levels. My skin (for the first time ever) has gone a bit scaly, not flaking, but definitely dry. Lost weight ,oddly enough, and can control weight much more effectively.

My testosterone is still tanked, waiting for Endo to come back from six week sortie to India :( to sort it out.

Have no tests since on NDT to compare my levels as yet. Generally do feel a lot better, not so fractious and more relaxed.

Whats the normal dose for NDT? Granted I may not be processing the T4 too well, but wondered if increasing to six grain might be an option, or does that sound too high? No palpitations, no sweats, no Hyper symptoms at all

Do you have gut problems? Perhaps you aren't actually digesting the medication you are taking very well? Can the NDT you are taking be used sublingually? I know some of them can, and some can't, but I don't know which ones are which.

Hi HB,

Yes i was having gut problems, but their reduced (not gone) on NDT. Its almost like my intestines were swollen? My belly has shrunk and isn't as bloated.

Im using Thyroid-s ,so its a digestive tract administration.

Just a thought, could you have an Rt3 problem? I'm also in a similar situation. I was also on 5 grains and still symptomatic. I was advised to reduce NDT and add t3. I'm still trying to learn and also find the right dose otherwise I would have tried to have helped more!

Yes,its a bit of a mystery. I was cock a hoop on the first few days of NDT. Something I'd not had in a long time was being replaced, I don't know what ,but I felt great. The fatigue is still evident, but 'other' things are better, sleep ,concentration, moods.

Its definitely a puzzle :)

There is something wrong when you need that much hormone. I'm looking for the article but this one might give you some idea:

I've had my cortisiol checked and it came back fine, it was a while agao and at my request, so i'll find out when I see my Endo as I've asked for a full blood panel to be carried out recently. ;)

Hi real, was it a saliva test? The only way to really know I think.

This article is also very interesting.

No it was bloods. I didn't think the saliva test was so accurate. Will look into getting Endo to do one, or will pay for private myself. Getting a bit confused trying to keep up with all the contra-indicators given out by professionals :)

Thanks again :)

Conventional doctors probably argue with alternative doctors but I don't think conventional doctors are very good with chronic disease. Now, I think they are all about whatever pharmaceuticals can treat. This type of doctor is an evidence based or functional medicine doctor and I think he is much more knowledgeable when it comes to hormones and such. Two more stresses to the adrenals are cortisol and glucose problems. Very common in the modern age.

This short video explains a little bit. Only 5 min.

They probably won't do a saliva test but some people here use Blue Horizon and do it themselves.

I am not saying the following link is the answer to your query but it may give you an idea. You have to recent get blood tests too.

The odd thing is I've not really been treated for my symptoms yet. He endo promised at Christmas to refer to rheumatologist to explore symptoms. It's now over six months on and I'm no further ahead and primarily self diagnosing and badgering for results and appointments . (That is the bone and ligament pain)

Hopefully I'm on track to better health, but it like it more if the 'professionals' got with the program :)

When you start taking NDT what it will do is bring to the fore other problems which wi need to be addressed. This checklist from STTM might be useful
