Hashimotos??

You may need to make yourself a drink and get yourself comfortable...

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism Dec 13 and put on 75mg levothyroxine.

Since then every blood test my TSH has been out of range and levothyroxine increased by 25mg till I got to 175mg in January 2017 when I was referred to endocrinologist as I was under dietitian and not losing weight unless on 800 cals.

Saw endocrinologist but VERY disappointed!! She gave impression that I was looking for excuse even though it was the opposite - I was existing on 800 - 1200 cals, swimming 4 times per week and still not losing... I wanted help as to why... instead she said I hadn't got a goitre and with my obesity should consider bariatric surgery - I said I want to do it myself and find out why when I am doing all the right stuff I am not losing... she said she couldn't say it was down to thyroid and she was discharging me as she was sending me for a cortisol test and thyroid test but was convinced it would come back normal!

Lo and behold it came back cortisol normal and thyroid out of range but this time 0.01-hyperthyroid!! Which explained the 1.5 stone weight loss in the past 2 weeks awaiting result!

Levothyroxine Dose reduced to 150mg... 2 months later blood test shows TSH of 6.5 so dose upped to 200mg

No weight loss for past 2 months

Now awaiting referral to endocrinologist at Addenbrookes in November 😬😬

Any thoughts anyone or do I just need putting down!

( I was diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2015, lumpectomy, chemotherapy - TFEC, double mastectomy and then diagnosed with osteoarthritis in hips and knees as a result of chemotherapy. Just had bone scan and shows osteoarthritis in feet, knees, hips, hands and shoulders 😬horrific joint pain and popping tramadols to get through)

Lavender69 It does sound like you could have been having a Hashi's swing. To be sure you will need thyroid antibodies tested - TPO (thyroid peroxidase) and TG (thyroglobulin). I don't think your GP can get both done, it's hard enough to get TPO in primary care, TG is almost never done, probably needs an endo to request that.

You could get them done privately with Blue Horizon or Medichecks. If you're going to go that route, it's really best to go for a full thyroid bundle and vitamins and minerals too. Blue Horizon Thyroid Plus Eleven or Medichecks Thyroid Check Ultravit.

Hello Lavender and so sorry to hear of all your troubles. Sorry too about your unsuccessful appointment with the Endocrinologist but it's pretty common if you read others stories on this site.

Do you know whether you have autoimmune thyroid disease otherwise known as Hashimotos? It can cause fluctuations in your thyroid blood tests.

If you've got your latest thyroid blood test results then if you want to post them here along with the laboratory ranges people might be able to help you make sense of what's going on with your thyroid.

You've come to the right forum as everyone helps each other and shares what they've learned and discovered.

Sounds awful Seaside. Reminds me of my own set of bizarre experiences with endocrinologists they were with out a doubt toerags to a man. May I suggest if you are on Facebook look at Thyroid Care Group, Roderick Lane has a very good protocol for thyroid issues, simple, cheap easy to do.

Good luck C

I take it TSH was 0.01? You can be over medicated, that doesn't mean your hyper.... and you need ft4 and ft3 results to see if you were actually over medicated or if the dipstick (probably diabetes specialist) Endo was just seeing under range TSH and jumping to conclusions!

You really could do with getting TSH, Ft3, ft4, b12, Ferritin, Folate and antibodies tested, and vitamin d. If doc won't do them do what many of us do and go via Thyroid UK website and get done private (less than £100 and worth saving for if necessary so you can get a full picture) oh sorry are you in the Uk?

I too spent years on 800 - 1000 calories a day slowly gaining weight but since getting everything optimal and Ft3 finally up near top of range I have list a stone so far eating well, very well. Until you have all ducks in a row losing weight may well be impossible... was for me
