Just had enough!

Here goes I will try and keep it short. The back end of 2012 started to feel strange , really odd. It started with me feeling off balance and very nauseous for a long time and constant ear pain and headaches. Fast forward to this day I still feel rubbish. And like most people blood test always come back ' normal'. To cut along story short I have had so many tests for example( 24hr blood pressure monitor, 24hr heart monitor, echocardiogram, colonoscopy, audiology, ENT etc. I have ended up in A and E twice last year due to palpitations even had to inject with enoxaparin for a week because they said once blood test was just slightly raised, cant remember what it was and all I get told is that you are stressed and anxious, I have been taking amlodipine for over a year now due to the high blood pressure and propranolol for the palpitations. I have had enough of feeling like rubbish! I had blood tests in June which highlighted vitamin D deficiency, the result was 23 so I am being medicated for that. what is worrying me though is that for a good few months now I feel a strange sensation in my throat and my neck feels thick and quite swollen on the left side it feels like there is a lump there , very odd feeling. I have some strange rashes that appear on my fore arms and feet when they like and disappear like it was never there. Legs feel heavy like lead every now and again, I have ringing ears , and I have gone from being 12.5 stones to 15.3 stones. But I cant understand that if my blood test all come back in range would I have a thyroid disorder. My maternal grandmother and her sisters all had terrible goitres which they had removed but surly my blood tests would show something. I just feel like I am going mad. My last test coulple weeks ago was TSH 0.61, T4 16.1 and T3 4.6 Should I be getting any other tests?

I'm sorry, but impossible to interpret your blood test results, without the ranges. :)

The other test you need is antibodies - TPOab. It might also be a good idea to get your vit d, vit B12, folate and ferritin tested. If they're low, they will cause symptoms.

Are you taking high dose vitamin D for your vitamin D deficiency? What is dose? Have you had vitamin D retested since

Taking vitamin D supplements increases our need for magnesium. Propranolol also possibly decreases magnesium (read the magnesium miracle) and slows thyroid uptake

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/284...

Excerpt from link

Mg is essential in the metabolism of vitamin D, and taking large doses of vitamin D can induce severe depletion of Mg. Adequate magnesium supplementation should be considered as an important aspect of vitamin D therapy.

Low B12 can cause balance issues. It can ALL be connected to low thyroid especially Hashimoto's

As greygoose says get your vitamins and antibodies tested asap.

If GP unhelpful then private testing available

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice.

All thyroid tests should be done as early as possible in morning and fasting to give highest TSH

Rickster77,

TSH 0.61 rules out primary hypothyroidism. FT4 16.1 and FT3 4.6 is usually euthyroid (normal) and excludes central hypothyroidism but I would need to see the FT4 and FT3 ranges to be 100% certain.

Ask your GP whether thyroid peroxidase antibodies have been tested and what the results and ranges are. I had euthyroid autoimmune thyroiditis (Hashimoto's) but was very symptomatic and initially symptoms seemed to be hyper but over time swung between hyper and hypo.

How much vitamin D has your GP prescribed?

Thank you for the replies. They started me on 50,000 u/1ml amps once a week for 6 weeks. Now on 25000u/1ml amps once a month. Which I started 2weeks ago.

Try checking all the side effects of the medicines you are taking by reading the Patient Information leaflet. Propranolol doesn't suit everyone, try a different betablocker. What about vitamin levels if vit D is deficient have you checked B12?

Thank you Clutter, Yes last year I was extremely hyper, all my friends commented about how much weight I had lost , I was visiting he toilet at least five times in a day and my husband commented on how abnormal this was. That's why I had a colonoscopy. Now I am a size 18-20 and I am a healthy eater. I don't understand. I find that for two weeks out of the month I can show all signs of hyper and then hypo for the next two weeks. All symptoms are worse around my monthlies like balance issues , headaches are worse etc .Sore throat and hoarse voice.
