Started taking t3 I got from turkey about 7 weeks ago. I am on 100mg of levothyroxine and takng 25 mg t3. My latest blood test showed my tsh to be 0.02 from 0.18. Should I change how much levothyroxine I take add by howmuch. Didn't tell my doc about taking t3 but I feel better on.it. thanks.

You were taking 100mcg of levothyroxine? Then added 25mcg of T3 to 100mcg of levo?

If so you have doubled your dose as 25mcg is around 100mcg of levo so are taking the equivalent of approx 200mcg.

Usually, we add 'gradually' the increase by 1/4 tablet of T3 every week or so.

However the most important question is:-

How are your feeling on 100mcg and 25mcg T3?

Thank you for your reply. I thought I shold reduce my levo but wasn't sure by how much. I have another blood test in 6 weeks so I'll cut my level to 50mg and see how that goes. Thanks again for taking the time to reply. X

You could keep to your 100mcg of levo and add a 1/4 of T3 every week or so, taking your pulse/temp several times a day until you are symptom-free and feel well.

Hi - if you are taking t3 it is important to monitor your dose by the free t3 results, tsh and ft4 are not enough and in fact could well be deceptive. Without that number you will not be able to adjust your dose properly.

Your TSH is bound to be suppressed taking 25 mcg T3, and adjusting your levo is not going to change that. Besides, the TSH is irrelevant once on thyroid hormone replacement. You need to know your FT3. However, as your doctor probably knows nothing about thyroid, he is going to think you are over-medicated and will want to lower your levo himself. I think it would be better if you tell him what you are doing, to remove all ambiguity, otherwise, you are going to get yourself into a terrible tangle!

I didn't know you could get T3 from turkeys! I bet there's a glut just after Christmas. 😉

Hello Monica123,

Is your brand of T3 20mcg? I just noticed you are taking 25mcg so I'm wondering if you're taking a tab and a quarter?

Wouldn't won't you under medicated by accident if you haven't noticed. And lol Ellie-Louise!

Thanks. The turkish t3 is called Tiromel and it is 25 mg per tablet.

I think I was thinking of Cytomel. Brain fog today. But glad all is good.
