Hi I was diagnosed back in 1987 it took a while to get a balance that worked for me. I have only just found this site and as I was reading I noticed a lot of threads have said you must take your meds an hour before you eat, believe it or not I have always taken mine straight after my breakfast and felt fine. However three days ago I decided I probably should have my meds on an empty stomach.... Strangely I now have tingling and burning session in my leg? Anyone got any ideas should I go back to my old routine?
Burning sensation!: Hi I was diagnosed back in... - Thyroid UK
Burning sensation!
You may be absorbing far higher percentage of your medication on empty stomach.
If you were fine, well and stable doing it your way, probably best to stick with it as was
Changing to taking on an empty stomach you might need to reduce dose
Thanks SlowDragon I am beginning to think your right. It's strange that I should suddenly start getting these symptoms. I didn't realise your suppose to take them on an empty stomach! In a dilemma now do I keep taking them on an empty stomach and have meds reduced or go back to what I was doing?
When you have burning sensation does it come and go. As my leg feels fine right now? I will definetly monitor in the next couple of days and if it happens again go back to what I was doing?
...seems odd that! Possibly coincidence?
Dr Kenneth Blanchard in his book 'The Functional Approach to Hypothyroidism' recommends taking T4 with food. You may need a bit more, but it may be better for your stomach.
So stick with what works for you.
If you always have an identical breakfast then I can't see that much of a problem taking meds with it though I imagine that would be a slightly higher dose than without. I always have the same breakfast but still prefer to leave an hour as what happens on holiday or if you run out of evaever and eat something g differently. That could make a difference depending what it is I would have thought. There are so many situations that can impact on our thyroid so I like to cut out as many possible variables as I can. One less thing to think about if those ago off kilter.
