I started on a low dose of Naturethroid last week and apart from some initial problems (headache, racing thoughts), it seems to have settled down. I honestly feel that my mood has lifted already from when I was on Levo - but I know there's a long way to go yet.
My question is - I have started to have tinnitus for the last couple of days since starting NDT. Has anyone else had this? Is it my body getting used to, and crying out for more T3? Also, after feeling I had more energy the last few days, I woke up this morning and felt a lot of body aches - is that an indication to raise my dose?
Any possible explanations gratefully received.
Thanks very much - this forum helps me everyday!

Hi hope your sleeping better now Mb008!...I wish I could answer but I'm in the same boat ..I asked a similar question on here the other day ..wasn't much response apart from can be b12 deficiency??and may be attributed to 'undermedication '..I would be interested to know what your question brings up!
Yes, sleep is a bit better, I've been using Phenergen (25mcg) when I need to. I think knowing that I have that as a back up helps me to relax!
I have read on here about the B12, but mine is pretty high (>1000), so it's not that. What a pain - I felt better on Naturethroid and I let myself think that perhaps this could be 'it'. Need to manage my own expectations better I think.
I've sent a note to my endo - so if he comes back with anything useful I'll let you know.
Yeah it's like pulling teeth isn't it!excellent b12..do you supplement?Hopefully its just highlighting an increase in dose ...unfortunately I think it can also mean a decrease. ..!I just wish I knew ...it really does my head in!!..Yes let me know what endo says ...appreciate that thanks
I've had it when I've been overmedicated and also undermedicated. ..but I think if anything I'm undermedicated right now! There's no let up with it ..I can cope, but when everything is silent it becomes a big issue as I really am aware of it then! I'm wondering if it's an adrenal thing as under or over medication will certainly tax the adrenals !...hopefully your endo will shed light on it !
I increased my NDT dose this morning and afternoon (by a quarter grain) and I have just realised that mine has stopped right now. So for me, it looks like I needed more NDT. I know that's liable to change on another day.
My adrenals were high but not too bad at the last check. I was very high a few months ago and brought it down with Tulsi tea (holy basil). That's all I can tell you I'm afraid - not much use.. but will wait for endo.
I was on a tiny dose of Levo when I switched (25mcg). I had tried to push up but couldn't without feeling really rough. Anyway went to an endo (recommended on this site) who was fab. He had a look at my results etc. and noted that I couldn't convert well and suggested NDT.
I only took 1/8 grain in the morning and same in afternoon. I know it's pathetically low but I am super sensitive to meds. After a rocky start and a couple of day's pause due to insomnia and headache, i started again and it's okay.
I upped my dose today to 1/4 grain in morning and afternoon because the tinnitus was louder than it had been plus I felt really tired this morning (whereas in the last week I've had a bit more energy). Add the aches and pains and I took that as an indicator that perhaps I needed to raise it.
My aches are a bit better, but they're still there.
It's all trial and error - and so difficult. There's no logic that I've found yet! I'm just writing it all down and hoping some sort of pattern will appear.
There are some holes not in the information provided so far... It needs to be asked: Were you previously on Levo but switched to NDT? If so, what was your dose of Levo? What are were your lab results at the time you started NDT in order to track your dosage increases? Switching from Levo to NDT is done according to protocol to get the right dose. Suddenly stopping one med and starting another - especially back at a starter dose - could give you loads of symptoms!
So I re-read the post and I see you stopped at 25 mcg of Levo. (A pathetically small starter dose for some). So your dose of Levo is likely OK. It could be the brand tho!
Here's a couple of posts to read on "switching to NDT" and symptoms when dosage not necessarily correct. And one on tinnitus resulting from brand of NDT (thyroid S versus Armour)
