Hi,
I just joined in desperation, trying to find a GP that will be willing to write me a script of Armour Thyroid that I've been on since 2010.
At the time I lived in Australia and had been unwell for over ten years before I finally found a GP there that knew what was going on and could finally tell me it was hyperthyroidism. Prior to that I had been told to just take anti-depressant medication or that 'we are all tired' from GP's and even Endocrinologists. I'm sure all of you that's been in the same boat knows the utter deflation you sense after such treatment and how hard it is to even get back trying to find someone that actually will treat your symptoms seriously. As I said it took me 10 years and in that time I had deteriorated pretty bad. But once I finally found my compassionate and knowledgeable GP that put my on Armour Thyroid as well as everything else ( I was incredibly low in B12 and Iron that I needed shots for several months -which no other doctor had picked up) I finally came back to life again.
In 2015 I moved to Sweden and my nightmare started all over again as the Swedish system is extremely bureaucratic and a GP first needs to be approved by the Swedish Medical board before they are even allowed to prescribe you natural desiccated thyroid medication. This is then re-assets every year and not always approved.
First I was put on Levaroxine by an Endo that didn't believe me that I was very sensitive to the synthetic alternatives (I'm super sensitive to most medications including antibiotics) and in the end he refused to prescribe me anything else and just dumped me. I can still recall that horrible feeling of utter helplessness after that phone call. After months of dead ends and endless visits to other GP's I found a doctor in a different location to where I lived that was willing to help me.
Now, I'm in the same boat again and needless to say I'm both scared and tired of fighting for my health a third time. I've already lost more than ten years of my life being so unwell. My stock of Armour is soon running out and my new GP here has just told me that she won't be able to help me although she knows that I'm not able to tolerate the alternatives they are willing to give me. All prior visits to Endocrinologists has been rather futile and degrading as they don't want to hear about people like me that cannot take the only medication they know of.
Is there anybody out there that knows of ANY GP that prescribes NDT? I'm in Oxford but willing to go out of my way to keep my health.
