Whose to blame for the great NHS drugs rip-off?

This is an article from

theregister.co.uk from 2016 which comments on the Times' article about Mercury Pharma and tries to explain what NHS rebate schemes are. So why can't the NHS negotiate with Mercury Pharma to allow T3 to become part of this scheme? They might have to print labels with a brand name as it looks like it applies to branded meds only. Then the CCGs get refund (discount by the back door) and Bob's your uncle.

Levelslass,

Mercury Pharma was 'debranded' and re-designated as a generic in order to get around the pricing controls on branded medicines. It was assumed that competition between companies would prevent generic medicine price hikes but no thought was given to what would happen if there was no competition. What we've seen is price gouging across several generic medicines and a distinct lack of action from the bureacrats who should be closing the loophole.

That's even worse then. They need to change the designation. Wonder if the new manufacturer marigold22 mentions Morningside Pharma? will be generic or branded?

Levelslass,

It's generic. No idea of the price.

Ok so would an organisation like presqipp.info the pharmaceutical be able to give us an indication

Presqipp are an organisation who have been recommending the removal of liothyronine as a treatment which can be prescribed. They aren't going to help anyone.

I can't help but think that the government is using this as an excuse to circumvent the demand for T3. Such an easy solution for them.

It would still be useful to find out what price Morningside Pharma are going to charge for their T3... It would make it much easier to buy it here if you were to be prescribed it on a 'named patient' basis, but it would have to be at the right price. That means it would have to compare favourably with the T3 that is available from other sources! Are you watching Morningside Pharma?

£258 apparently. Still too much

I know... An eye-watering discount of 20p!!! What a cynical rip-off! Makes you wonder whether Morningside and Concordia are being supplied by the same bunch of tossers... or, indeed, whether they're the same people!

Not what you're looking for?
