Ferritin testing etc.

My doctor will test for B12 and Folate, because I have severe pins and needles but refused ferritin as tested

Iron the other month which was 'normal' - is this the same thing? Also brushed away my request for vit D test. Should I persist with other doctors for these 2. I Don't think I'll go back to this doctor (there are many at the surgery).

When referring to blood test results as normal - all it means that it is somewhere in the range - maybe bottom or top it is immaterial to them.

We need optimal results. Vitamin D, I don't know why he wont test unless you had one a short time ago. Both B12 and Vit D are prohormones and are essential to be optimal. B12 we should aim for 1,000 and someone will respond to state the optimum for Vit D. If supplementing with B12 it should be methylcobalamin sublingual B12. For Vit D, it should be D3. I found Amazon has best selection of B12 sublingual and I'll give a link. Anything you buy through Amazon Thyroiduk.org.uk get a small sum towards their expenses.

I'd make an appointment with another doctor and hope he is sympathetic. You can say you are a member of the NHS Choices for information and support about dysfunctions of the thyroid gland and you were advised to have vitamins/minerals at an optimum and before you supplement you'd appreciate a blood test. I don't know what tests you had but the recommendation is B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate.

Just a note on the B12's from Amazon.... Solgar B12's 1000mcg, that a lot of us have been buying, have rocketed in price. 2 months ago I bought them for £7.50 for 60 nuggets, last night they were £39.98!!!!

That's an horrendous increase. Maybe query this with Amazon. If they were 'nuggets' (sublingual) I bought them a couple of months ago but they were not sublingual - wouldn't dissolve in mouth. I contacted Solgar themselves but have yet to take the matter further.

Yes - I see £39.98 for 60 nuggets. I also see £15.95 for 250 nuggets:

Works out about £3.83 for 60 nuggets. So near enough half the price they were.

It is always vital to check prices over time at Amazon. They change so fast, sometimes in seconds.

Can be worth checking camelcamelcamel - e.g.

ferritin is a protein that binds to iron enabling it to be used by the body - its quite a good indicator for iron deficiency but if the iron panel came up ok then it is unlikely to be necessary.
