Can someone kindly explain what is the correct wording to get Doctor to prescribe armour and to test T3 levels. I am not sure of my 'rights ' if any when requesting these things? I have only ever been tested for THS And T4?

If you are in the U.K GPs generally are not allowed to test for T3. An endo can or people do private tests. Only an endo would prescribe T3 or armour.

I'm not sure, I'm sorry to say... but I have a lot to learn yet, and am actually going through that same thing. Getting ready to ask to be switched from Synthroid and Cytomel over to armor thyroid

I doubt if there is any correct wording. I asked my GP if my fT3 levels should be tested along with fT4 and TSH, but, the reply was "no". I even asked about full thyroid panel testing. You will need to have additional testing done privately such as TSH, fT4, and fT3. Perhaps add iodine level testing as well.

Some private doctors will prescribe NDT and T3.

Laraline,

FT3 is rarely tested in primary care in the UK and even in secondary care the lab will often decline to test unless TSH is <0.1. You can order private thyroid tests via thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

Armour and other brands of NDT aren't licensed for use in the UK so they're rarely prescribed on the NHS. Most members using NDT have private prescriptions or buy online and self medicate.

The GP is at the end of the line, taking orders (they are called "recommendations") from several different layers of authority. The legal way to try your luck is to contact those from who he is taking his orders and demanding explanations, perhaps mentioning the Freedom of Information Act. You need to contact your local Clinical Commissioning Group, your Area Prescribing Committee, the British Thyroid Association, the UK endocrinology society, the American Thyroid Association, your MP, the newspapers and anybody else you believe it may be appropriate to contact.

That is what I have been doing for the last 3 years.

Taking illegal action using a shotgun is much quicker but not advisable even if it does get you an initial dose of NDT. You won't get a second bottle in jail.
