I was diagnosed with graves over 2 years ago and have been on a low dose carbimazole since August 2016

My problem is that with just 5mg per day my t3 and t4 drops significantly and within a month I am hypo. And then if I reduce my dose then my t3 and t4 increases significanly again.

I don't know what to do?

Area,

Perhaps you could try 2.5mg/5mg alternate days.

Area,

You have reduced dose so of course T3 and T4 rise. As long as they only rise slightly and remain within range it's fine.

What are/were your thyroid levels (with the ranges) before going on Carbimazole?

They were about 4 times the normal range

It may be time to stop it. The treatment is 12 to 24 months. Mine was stopped after only 7 months and I have Graves. Your TSH receptor antibodies need to be monitor every 3 months during the treatment. If they're negative, it's time to stop the treatment.

So when you stopped did your T3 and T4 increase?

No. They stayed the same. My TSH decreased but it was quite high.

A T3 and T4 increase means nothing: as long as they both stay normal, there is nothing to worry.

My t3 and t4 came out of the normal range within a couple of weeks

Within a couple of weeks! That's so fast. It takes up to 4 weeks for your body to get fully rid of Carbimazole. You really need to speak to your endo, something is very peculiar in your case.

Thank you. I will get those tested because I don't think I did

It's a very expensive test and the NHS doesn't carry it out. I have a private insurance. I'm afraid you'll have to get the test privately.

Okay I will speak to my Ends about it
