Along with the above post I had my thyroid removed last May and have not felt well since. No one seems to be bothered by that except me.
Do u have the ranges, could u post them please?
But if you don't feel well, and u don't have other health probs which could account for that, then the medication clearly ain't optimal.
Expert patients will be along with their thoughts in a minute.
TSH range ---- 0.34-5.60
T3 range ---- 4-8.3
T4 range ---- 8.0-18.0
Does that help you aspmama?
Well, you're just not converting, are you. No Wonder you feel bad.
You are taking Levo, which is T4, which has to be converted to T3. And, judging by those results, you aren't converting T4 to T3. Your FT3 is far too low in range.
It would be a good idea to get your nutrients tested - vit D, vit B12, folate, ferritin. They all need to be optimal for you to be able to convert and absorb the hormone.
However, you would feel a lot better if your doctor were to give you a little T3 to go with your T4, to bring the level up. Unfortunately, that's a hard thing to get prescribed.
Thank you grey goose. I am on a losing battle trying to get anything extra from my GP, they just see their budget flying out of the window. But thanks for your advice.
Well, then, why not buy it for yourself on-line? It's not nearly as expensive as on the NHS. Just post another question asking people for sources and dosing advice. So many of us do it! And, it's better than staying sick!
Okay thanks will do that. Do you buy it and if so from where ? I will look it up and also ask for advice
Assuming the ranges are roughly the same as the majority(it would be good to see them, though), then those figures don't look too bad on the face of it.
There are other things that you need to look at
B12
D3
Ferritin
And finally Reverse T3 (or RT3) which looks just like the normal free T3 to the test, but is inactive in the body. When people have pretty good T3 but still feel bad, that needs to be looked at.
Hi Ruthi, the levels I put online were the only ones that came out on the print out from my GPs computer.
Ladylox gave the ranges a little below the original post - the T3 is in fact low in range and Greygoose has commented on the figures with the ranges.
This board drives me nuts sometimes, with posts showing up out of order. Ignore my posts, I agree with what's been said
That's not an uncommon story, sadly.
The GP will have ranges. And should really share them with you.
And given how rough you feel, it would not be unreasonable to do the other tests. I am very lucky, and basically my GP, bless him, will do any tests I ask for, if they are available. But he is not typical so you may have to go private and get them done by Blue Horizon. There comes a point when it stops being worth the fight, but that point is different for different people.
Why do these tests? well deficiency (or even low normal levels) in any one of them can produce symptoms very similar to hypothyroidism. It looks like you are converting your T4 to T3 well, the proportions are about right so the chances are that something else is going on, and these are the primary suspects.
Thanks Ruthi, at the moment my diabetic bloods are fine, my iron bloods are fine, although I have suffered chronic anaemia twice in 12months.
I am now awaiting results of water sample and have just been diagnosed with gout in my left hand. It just seems never ending.
