Posting for a friend who is disabled following a stroke. Dr is adamant she is in normal ranges and ignoring her hypo symptoms.

Vit B12 220 (197.0-771.0)

Folate5.5(2.0-18.7)

TSH 1.5(0.27- 4.5)

Ferritin mid range 70.8(13.150.0)

Dr has said all in normal range have repeat bloods in 6 months refusing to medicate when in normal ranges

Hi Sarah, is she taking thyroid hormone; her TSH is perfect. But if she is taking hormone, then it can also be rather meaningless. The other results are not optimal though that can be due to other gut issues?

Did she have an ischemic type stroke....... which aren't as serious as the others?

That sounds like a good start and see where it leads. She could certainly improve her folate and B12. Often the body will do some wonderful things in recovery.

This man is brilliant about body functions and I've watched many of his videos. I haven't seen any of these but maybe they would help.

Yea, I think that's a good-ish TSH for someone with a functioning thyroid. But even then it's quite meaningless, as it's kind of all probabilities, 70 or 80% or whatever would be healthy with that number.

If you suspect a thyroid problem you need the whole panel and antibodies to check it out. Although low B12 alone can produce similar symptoms, and the other vitamins are similar. Vitamin D is also a very common deficiency.

If she had any operations following car crash, that may have depleted her B12

What stands out is her dreadful B12 and folate - low B12 can give hypo-type symptoms.

Homocysteine if high in range is a marker for stroke and heart issues. It also accompanies low B12. Not a routine test - needs to be demanded along with a MMA test.

Hi what is MMA test and homocysteine

Marz in reply toSarahpk

Both are markers for B12 deficiency. Have a google 😊 MMA - is Methylmalonic Acid - a urinary test - and Homocysteine is a protein which can be high when B12 is low as mentioned earlier a marker for heart issues and stroke when high in range.
