As many others have posted, I have been on Levothyroxine T4 for twenty years but all the time still feeling hypothyroid symptoms. My NHS Doctor will not consider prescribing T3.
A recent blood test showing poor conversion into T3 gave:
Result Normal Units
TSH 2.04 0.27- 4.20 mIU/L
Free T4 15.5 12.0- 22.0 pmOI/L
Free T3 3.0 3.10- 6.80 pmOI/L
Can anybody PM and point me toward a reliable T3 source, abiding by the forum rules?
You are undermedicated. The goal of Levothyroxine is to restore the patient to euthyroid status. For most patients that will be when TSH is 0.27 - 1.0 with FT4 in the upper range. FT4 needs to be in the upper range in order that sufficient T3 is converted. Read Treatment Options in thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/about_... Email louise.roberts@thyroiduk.org.uk if you would like a copy of the Pulse article to show your GP.
Your T4 is low so an increase in Levo is needed. How are your vitamin levels? B12, Vit D, folate and ferritin all need to be optimal for conversion. Selenium will help too.
You'd be best off sorting the above before opting for T3, or you still may not feel better if you are deficient.
