Blood test results - Confused. Can anyone help?

Serum TSH level (XaELV) 2.05 miu/L [0.38-5.33]

Thyroid function test (X77Wg)

Serum free T4 level (XaERr) 13.5!pmol/L [7.0- 16.0]

I have been on 75mg of levithyroxine for a couple of months - I feel tired , aches and very down. Will I ever feel better ? Back to my old self ? Should I be exercising ( I like to run 5k 3 times a week but I'm struggling to keep this up).

If anyone can guide me please feel free to comment.

The doctor says that these blood test results are in range - I have to now wait until mid august for another blood test and review.

My life is passing me by I just want to get in with it....

Yes, they're in range. But so what? That's what you should say to him. Just 'in range' isn't good enough. They should be in a place in the range that makes you feel well. And your TSH is much too high to make you well. It should be one or below, and he should have given you an increase on the basis of this test.

Plus, you have no idea if you're converting the T4 you're taking, into the T3 that every cell in your body needs. Your TSH and FT4 could be perfect, but if your FT3 is still low, then you are still hypo. Doctors don't seem to understand that.

What would be a very good idea would be to do a private test, and get all the results that your doctor won't test for :

TSH

FT4

FT3 (by comparing the FT4 and the FT3, you can see how well you're converting)

TPOab

TgAB (if you have high antibodies it means you have Hashi's, and there are things you can do to help yourself)

Vit D

Vit B12

folate

ferritin

If your nutrients are low, that will make you feel bad, and affect how your body uses thyroid hormone. But, you won't get much help from your doctor on that, because doctors know nothing about nutrients. But, you can supplement yourself.

Details of private tests are on the Thyroid UK home page. And, when you get all those results, post them here, with the ranges, and people will be able to advise you. :)
