Increasing levothyroxine by 37,5?

Is that ok or a bad idea?

Levels are:

Ft4 15.4 (10-19.8)

Ft3 4.1 (3.1-6.1)

The reason for this would be to be on an even dose 125mcg per day. I was taking 88.5mcg at the time of test but increased to 100mcg directly after. Any ideas?

Lisan1,

Dose adjustments are usually in 25mcg increments unless a small dose is needed to 'tweak' levels. I wouldn't advise increasing to 37.5mcg in one go.

Hi Lisan1, Personally I found that moving from 75mcg to 100mcg had a massive effects on my tsh after 6 weeks (only tsh tested at 75 dose). If you increase by much you may end up going over before you next test and you still won't know where the right dose was.

Also you may want to try different brands and doses within brands as that makes a difference and may be an easier option to try out with a GP who is fixed on tsh results. A lot of people find 100mcg to be stronger than 2x50mcg, for example. If you don't want that then stick to the combo you're on at present, just increase the dose and see how you get on with that.

Thanks!

I will increase by 25mcg and see where I'm at in 6 weeks. Since my ft3 levels was so low in range I feel that it's not likely to push me over range.

That's what I'd do 🙂 Your tsh is already low and you may find your gp freaks out if it goes below the range. This may happen before your ft3 is at the optimal level, unfortunately. Best of luck!
