increasing levo by another 12.5mcg?

Hello there, I would like to add another 12.5mcgs to my already 50mcg just to see what effect it has at this stage. I am thinking of taking the 50mcg very early am as usual, and adding the extra 12.5mcg in the evening. Does this sound a better approach than taking all 62.5mcg in one go? any thoughts welcome thanks

I, personally, would take it all in one dose. You should continue to increase it by 25mcg about every six weeks with your GP checking your blood levels. This is what the doctor should be aiming for as some keep their patients within the 'normal' range but that wont make us feel better:-

6 What is the correct dose of thyroxine and is there any rationale for adding in tri-iodothyronine?

The appropriate dose of levothyroxine is that which restores euthyroidism and serum TSH to the lower part of the reference range – 0.2-0.5mU/l.

You should have a blood test about 4-6 weeks and GP should raise meds. Get a copy of your blood test results with ranges and post in a new question if he should say 'normal level'.

Hi It depends ,how long you have been on this very low dose? Make sure you have a blood test for TSH, T4 and Free T3, even if you unfortunately have to pay for it. You may need more T4 ( levo) and some T3, it depends on your results and how you feel. The 2 really need to go together. Also make sure you have the other associated tests ( GP ) Vit D ( hormonal, if low corrected calcium before treatment, both repeated 3 months to check the levels, when right annually. Iron/ferritin, often low with thyroid disease. Diabetes tests , blood there are 2 , GP may only do one.at first Diabetes is autoimmune and hormonal with to start with very similar symptoms to thyroid disease. The B12 and hormonal, also auto immune. There are other tests but these are important. They are normally the first one the Endo`s do ( if any good!).

Best wishes,

Jackie

I take 50mcg early every morning and 25mcg 1 hr. before lunch and 3 hours after breakfast if I feel I need it and it works with an hour. If I take 75 mcg. every morning I feel hyper. within a couple of days. Perhaps, like me, you only a 'perk up' now and then. I just go on how I feel and TSH results are always around 1.00 or below and T4 near top of range. I have been on this regime for about 18 months. Hope this helps. Jax

Hi jaxn breeze thanks for the input I have a way to go I think to get TSH down to your level, but that's what I am aiming for (at least I think it is!!!)
