Anaemia

Hi everyone,

I had my blood results on Friday and was told by the doctor that I am anaemic. My ferritin level 177 and my blood count is low as seen in my results below. The doctor advised me to take vitamins for my anaemia and did not prescribe me any iron tablets. I can get iron tablets online just wondered how much to take and for how long. I was going to order ferrous fumerate 210mg as that's what I have been on in the past. She also had concerns about my thyroid levels but I refuse to lower my thyroxine dosage as I don't want more hypo symptoms. I have floradix iron in liquid form but it tastes awful.

Can anyone advise? thanks

Here are the NICE guidelines for iron deficiency anaemia cks.nice.org.uk/anaemia-iro... - print them out and make an on the day appointment with your GP. Ask him why he isn't following them.

We can advise here on what to do but you need some investigation in why you haemoglobin is low and ferritin is high.

Thank you for that information, it's very helpful :-). I am going to ring my gp surgery in the morning and ask to speak to a different gp, one who is understanding.
