I've had an intolerance to alcohol for about 9 years. Just one drink makes me very sick for days. I was very recently diagnosed with hypo and have just descovered it can cause alcohol intolerance. Has anyone else got alcohol intolerance? It has not bothered me at all. I was just quite surprised that underactive thyroid can cause this.

Alcohol intolerance
I think there are a lot of us that don't tolerate alcohol very well with our Hypothyroidism. I can manage one glass of wine but to be honest alcohol doesn't bother me so I do without, have done for years.
Yes i think it is quite nice not being able to drink. Many people are surprised how many years i have gone without drinking, but to be honest, i don't like drinking anyway.
I was diagnosed hypo 27 years ago when I went into Myxodoema Coma. I have been unable to tolerate alcohol since then, although I wasn't drinking very much for a good few years prior to this. It never occurred to me this was to do with being hypo, not that it bothers me. I am very useful to all my friends when we go out together as I am always the designated driver. There is always bright side to everything!
I haven't got a diagnose yet, I have all the symptoms of underactive thyroid but "normal" blood tests. I have become more and more intolerant of alcohol as my symptoms have become worse. Today I dont drink at all and Im 30, I become very ill so it is just not worth it. I believe it is related to my thyroid
I can't tolerate alcohol at all I haven't had any in 15yrs it always made me sick but it was the hangovers which would put me in bed for 24hrs! That was before I had a thyroidectomy,I have tried a tiny sip once which made my hear race so I didn't do it again.x
I had a few drinks last week and every time felt so sick afterwards. I woke up with sweats, nausea and heart palpitations couple of hours after two small glasses of wine. Glad to find out there's an explanation and not just me being older and weaker 😃
I have a version of this whereby I no longer appreciate the taste of alcohol and have given it up altogether. Before I gave up I was able to drink large quantities of spirits and feel no immediate effects; the following morning was a different matter! Before the thyroid problem occurred this amount would have knocked me out. Alcohol certainly has a relationship with the thyroid and, as would be expected, the effect is different for different people.
When I was undiagnosed I couldn't tolerate alcohol and it used to make me sick. Am currently doing t3 only and can drink OK, not a lot but I can drink a couple of drinks ok
