Gluten intolerance and Glyphosate intolerance.

There was a recent discussion on this site regarding gluten intolerance in relation to Hypothyroidism and I found this study to be of interest, not to disprove gluten intolerance but as an add on, regarding possible Glyphosate intolerance, also.

I believe that Glyphosate is sprayed on wheat and oat crops prior to harvest to cause die off of the leaves and make harvesting easier.

My gut is happier when I buy flour made wheat that is stoneground with no flour improvers

The mill I use also 'old' strains of wheat etc

How interesting, I hadn't realised wheat and oat crops are often sprayed before harvesting. I came up as having glyphosate exposure on some tests before going gluten free, but I couldn't think how it might have happened as I eat organic vegetables. Now I know!

Where I live Glyphosate is annually sprayed on weeds on the paths surrounding my home .if it’s a breezy day the spray goes everywhere . A lot of my neighbours complain about it and the County Council is looking to ban it at some point in the future. Until then we risk breathing it in.

I read a good few years back that it was suspected that it wasn't gluten that people were intolerant to but the Glyphosate that is sprayed on the wheat - interesting to see it on a pubmed doc.

I stopped buying Rapeseed Oil back then as that is treated with it too.

I wouldn't be surprised if we are reading about Aminopyralid soon as well.

Unlikely that glyphosphate is the original cause.

Glyphosphate was discovered in 1950. And separately in 1970.

But coeliac was being investigated in 1944-45.

It is, of course, possible that glyphosphate contributes to cases, worsens them, precipitates coeliac in people who otherwise might not have suffered.

I agree that for many people, the problem is with glyphosate and not gluten. Glyphosate is banned in many European countries but used widely in the United States. The European gluten containing wheat is not tainted with glyphosate. This is why many Americans with supposed gluten intolerance can eat meals with breads and pastas in Europe and not suffer the symptoms they usually have in the States.
