Filling in the gaps...

Hi there,

I have been trying to read and re-read books on how to get on top of my Hashimoto's. I've met with Dr P and I've looked on this site every day since I've been diagnosed, trying to understand what's going on. But, I still have gaps in my understanding and perhaps I lack patience in trying to see if things settle down before investing in the next thing it could be. I have some questions that I hope I can get some answers to - please. I am sorry if it's long - but I have a lot of questions.

Firstly, I have tried Teva and Actavis, didn't get on with the. Am on Wockhardt now and trying to get my dose up to 50mcg. I know it's not a lot. I am alternating 25mcg and 50mcg every other day for the last week and will keep pushing.

Only thing is that I am agitated (particularly in the afternoon). Much more short-tempered than I have been for a long time (shouting at kids and husband... AND I even had an angry dream last night ,which meant I couldn't go back to sleep!) Does this mean I need to push up my dose quicker? Just that my temperature in the morning is 36.9 and evening is 37.3.

Also, I have a racing mind in the early morning. Woke up today at 4.30am and couldn't go back to sleep.

Doesn't this mean I am going into Hyper (according to Basal Temperature Testing, Dr P's book)>

Are there any other reasons why my temps would go up?

I think I am having a flare up. Do these happen as and when? My bones are aching particularly my wrists and elbows. How can I reduce a flare up? What causes it?

I am on Selenium, Vit D, just started Vit C, Mk 2, Magnesium, and am 100% gluten free.

My eyes are very dry, hair still falling out, I have a sore on my upper palate which I don't know where it came from... feeling a bit rough today.

Hope someone can help answer the above.

This site helps me to keep searching, to keep trying to reduce the symptoms. .... problem is I think I have a plan and then something else happens but thank you, I appreciate all the replies.

It has probably taken years for our thyroid gland to, finally, not produce sufficient hormones and we have clinical symptoms. So it stands to reason that the hormones have to be gradually increased until we have improved somewhat.

Every hormone we try should be given a sufficient amount of time for our body to get used to it as fillers/binders in them may differ and it can cause us to have symptoms etc.

I'd say about three or four months trial is adequate unless someone has a severe reaction after a couple of doses.

Being female some of us have had dire effects of hormones going haywire at times when not hypo. I shall give you a list of clinical symptoms and it is not until we are on an optimum of hormones for us that things settle down without the swings and roundabouts happening.

We have to be patient as sometimes it is the fillers/binders in the product that have an affect as the hormone itself shouldn't.

I have had pulse of 144 but I wasn't hyper it was my reaction to a tablet itself probably the fillers/binders. It is difficult to tell.

Your reaction may be due to not yet being on sufficient for your body but in no way can we rush. It always has to be very gradual increases. I am sorry you are having problems when we expect to feel better when starting hormones.

Thanks Shaws. It's just so difficult to unpick it all.

It's because our hormones are haywire and the thyroid hormone T3 is required in all of our receptor cells and the brain contains the most. That's why we can have an awful time as body is struggling because it doesn't have an optimum to do everything our body has to do. :)

Mb008,

You were only a little undermedicated on 25mcg in January so 25/50mcg alternate days may be sufficient.

How much vitD have you been supplementing? Bone and joint pain is often due to low vitD and yours was only 49 in Jan.

Thanks Clutter. I have been supplementing 1000mcg Vit D daily. It's a new pain this time in my wrists and elbows mostly. I have sent off for a blood test (full panel including Vit D. It was on offer yesterday with medichecks - Is it too soon to test when I've only been on Wockhardt for 3 weeks now? Should I wait until the 6 week mark?

Mb008,

I would wait until you've been taking Wockhardt for six weeks.

1,000iu* isn't really enough to raise your vitD. Why not increase to 5,000iu for a few weeks. It may help resolve the wrist and elbow pain.

*edited to correct 1000mcg to 1,000iu.

Okay, I have been taking 5,000IU (just checked!). I have been taking that for a long time (about 5 months). Will wait a couple of weeks to test it all with medicheck test and will post back here. Thanks very much for your replies.
