Lolowatto,
I'm sorry you've had no replies. I've not read of similar difficulties but feel free to repost your question.
Hey yes, I used to have this and get it only rarely now. As a side effect of all the medications, i'm on, particularly levothyroxine I was severely vitamin D deficient. However, the good news is the leg cramps eased up a lot even within a few days of being prescribed Vitamin D3 supplements. I would call them a miracle drug haha, even though I hate taking tablets. Also, I found out from some private blood tests that I was very dehydrated, this can be the main reason for leg cramps. Like you too I was ok in the house but not outside. Hope for the best for you. I'd try the Vit D3 and drinking as much water as you can...check with Dr first if ok to take D3 as it is a hormone and too much can be toxic.
Things that have helped my muscles spasms, cramps and pain :
1) Getting all iron and ferritin results to optimal - which took a long time because I was severely deficient. Iron must be tested before supplementing because it is poisonous in overdose.
2) Getting vitamin D to optimal - even though my results were not particularly bad to start off with. You would need to test before supplementing. Vitamin D can be overdosed and become toxic at high levels.
3) Magnesium - there is no point in testing this because the blood test is very unreliable. As long as your kidneys are healthy taking magnesium supplements is not an issue
There are lots of magnesium supplements available of various different kinds, and people need to choose the type that appeals to them. The required dose is 300mg - 350mg per day.

4) Potassium - Try everything else above before even thinking about supplementing potassium. Getting the level of this wrong can have severe effects on the heart. Include potassium-rich foods in the diet rather than supplementing if at all possible. When I think I need it (because muscles are actively going into spasm or twitching) I will take a maximum of about 400mg potassium, spread over a few hours.
5) You could have low T3. You would need a full thyroid function test before you would know about this. You could get one done privately. If this interests you, just ask for more info.
