My tsh is 0.1 t417 and t3 normal. Last blood test was tsh 0.03 t4 20 and t3 6.9. Not sure which reference ranges Medway in Kent use. But doctor dropped my medication when tsh 0.03 and t4 20 and t3 6.9 from 75mg to 50 mg. Are these tests going in right direction or still high.

Hey Gillybabe

Medway labs ranges

3.5 - 6.5pmol/L T3

10.3 - 22.7pmol/L T4

0.35 - 5.5mu/L TSH

Do you have hypothryroidism ? Remaining symptoms ? Hashimotos ?

If you feel well, your meds should be left alone.

Other members can contribute now we know the ranges :)

This the main Thyroid UK site will help some more

Do you mean stick with 75mg. as in left alone as I do not want to go to 50mg really as I ended up hypothyroid with TSH 10 on 50mgs before.

Gillybabe,

FT3 6.9 was over range so you were a little over medicated on 75mcg. What is your FT3 on 50mcg?

The did not say at surgery just said it was normal. Have new GP our old doctor retired and he would always discuss the results. But this new doctor left message to say tsh 0.l t4 was 17 and t3 normal no numbers left on message. Just get retested in 3 months.

Gillybabe,

Ring your GP receptionist and ask for the T3 result. Normal could mean 3.5 or 6.5.

Gillybabe in reply toClutter

I did and she said hospital had only put normal. I thought that a bit strange.

Gillybabe,

Well I think you are entitled to know the result. If it were me I would ask the receptionist for the lab phone number and ask what the result is.

Blimey. You are bold. Might get struck off bit worried about doing that.

Gillybabe,

I don't think it is bold to exercise my right as a patient to be informed about my blood result. Frankly your GP shouldn't have accepted the lab telling him/her that the result was normal and should have chased up the result in my opinion.

I know. She has just taken over practice and installed a part-time locum and she is part-time herself and she seems quite officious and when I rang in for my results twice, the receptionist said ring back next week as she has 200 blood tests sitting on her desk to be looked at. So would not want to upset her until I get to know her.

Actually rang surgery and the new doctor was very nice. She said my TSH 0.1 t4 17 and t4 was 4. She also said the other doctor in the practice was right to drop 25 mgs when my TSH was 0.03 t4 21 and t3 5.1. They were verging on hyperactive. She said see how I feel in a month when she will repeat blood tests at 50 mgs. She also said you know your own body and if I still feel a bit under par she may increase my dose to 50mg one day and 75 mg the next.

Apparently it was 4. which doctor called upper end for t3. So my results were 0.1 tsh 17 t4 and t3 4. So where do I stand now. All I know is on 50 mgs I am starting to feel very tired. But doctor said give it another month and get blood tests done then. Then I would have given it three months. A lot can happen in a month and I do not want to go hypothyroid again. Think doctor got concerned when my blood test before last was tsh 0.03 t4 21 and t3 5.1. Advice please.

Gillybabe48,

The results are not interpretable without the ranges. Without the ranges you have no choice but to accept what your doctor says. Perhaps you could email the practice and ask for the lab ref ranges or ring the lab at your hospital and ask for them.

Rapunzel has quoted the reference ranges for medway above. Tsh 0.35 - 5.0. T4 10 - 25 and t3 3.5 - 6.5

Gillybabe48,

I don't think you can assume that your practice's lab ranges are the same as the Medway ranges. In fact it makes no sense that they are the same otherwise why would your doctor think you over medicated with FT4 21 when the range goes up to 25, and if the FT3 range is upt to 6.5 your FT3 can't have been too high at 4 or 5.1.

I know I am completely confused. She said 0.03 tsh is verging hyperactive. So who knows. I will have to wait another month to find out.

Got that wrong t4 reference 10 - 22 and mine was 21. Tsh 0.03 and t3 5.1. Now they are tsh 0.1 t417 t3 4.

Not sure yet I have blood test next week but feeling a bit achy and wiped out every day now and headachy. So I am hoping doctor will increase back to 75mgs. She said depending upon tests if I still feel like this she will put me on 50mg one day and 75mg next day etc.

Think the doctor was worried about my tsh being 0.03 and said drop to 50 mgs. But last time I did that my tsh went up to 7 and then 10.

Thanks Clutter think I will ring lab at Medway Hospital for reference ranges. Wouldnt they be the same as our doctors.

A week to go now to blood test after dropping 25mg. Just as well am feeling so tired. Feel like increasing dose but that will only confuse tests. Just worked out it has been 12 weeks since dropping dose. No wonder I feel so tired and low. Thought it was only going to be 8 weeks. Any advice about how to get the highest possible TSH result so I can go back on 75 mg.
