Sorry. I've a few questions.....

After my bloods yesterday I've a few questions sorry.

Iron. I take 2x Tardyferon tablets a day. They are 80 each. I've now finally got my iron to a good level. Do I carry on taking the supplements or do I stop? I've no view really either way, I'm happy my iron levels are up and I want to keep them up.

Scan. I've never had my Thyroid scanned or even touched really. Do I request a scan? It's always always been 'swollen' on the right hand side and after reading posts on here I think I should have a scan? Is that 'normal' practice. It currently feels really large to me.

Sweating. Is my thyroid the reason I have night sweats every night? Plus I'm quite a sweaty person during the day. Is my thyroid the reason for this also?

Supplements. I take B12 and B complex. Selenium and zinc. Iron and Vit C. Is there anything else I should be taking to help me?

Thank you.

Zuzka,

If your iron level drops when you don't supplement it might be a good idea to reduce dose to 1 x tablet as a maintenance dose.

I don't think it is normal practice to order a scan unless there is a palpable lump or swelling.

Menopause is the usual reason for sweats but thyroid can cause sweating too. B12 deficiency can cause night sweats. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/252...

How is your vitD level?

Thank you Clutter. Ok will drop iron to one from today. And I just keep taking that from now on?

Re the scan I somehow thought it was normal practice, I shall try not to stress about that 😊

I'm 43 and quite sure I'm not going thro the menopause, I actually think that's been tested along this line and it's not happening yet. I am supplementing my B12 daily.

My Vit D was last checked 16/09/16 and was at 79nmol/l.....there is no range for this result.

I asked at the blood place for a full blood count on top of my prescription from my Endo but they didn't understand what I was asking for. So they did my B12 which now says it's at 957pmol/l and the last time I had it tested it was 24/01/17 and was at 385 but could that be showing the tablets? Seaside susi mentioned that.

Thank you as always for your help.

Zuzka1,

If you don't hold on to iron then try 1 iron tablet daily but retest in 4-6 months because too much iron is as bad as too little.

If you are supplementing B12 daily it will be high.

VitD is replete >75nmol/L.
