Vit B12 and acne risk

Hi! I need to up my B12 but am petrified of developing acne. As I have skin issues relating to allergies/reactions and rosacea I have a daily cleansing routine and elimination diet to protect it as much as possible. What experience have you had with B12, does it change the balance of the skin to make bacteria thrive in susceptible people or are my fears unfounded. Thank you!

Ask on the Pernicious Anaemia site - they know about B12.

Thank you!

Hi, I've pernicious Aneamia, 18 years. In the beginning I did get spots, on my face on head and chest back. Not too bad but I did have them. It's because of the homosystein it's toxic in your body and high in people who have low B12 like I had at diagnosis. The frequent B12 injections needed in beginning clears your system of the homesystein and it comes out as spots, so even though it's not pretty it's a good sign and they do go once you've got it out your system. Homocysteine is a common amino acid in your blood. You get it mostly from eating meat. ... In fact, a high level of homocysteine is a risk factor for heart disease. It's associated with low levels of vitamins B6, B12, and folate. Have your B12 if you need it. And the Occurrence of acne during therapy can be alleviated by substitution with biotin available from health food stores.

Thank you Elliza. I don't eat meat, only fish, would that work in my favour?

I presume your b12 is low regardless of your diet because you are on B12. Low B12 causes high homosystein. The B12 will push it out your system. You need to get it out your system by having B12.

I'm not on supplements yet, b12 340 and know from this forum below 500 not good.

Then you need B12. It can only do you good. I keep my B12 levels at 2000. You only have 20% of whatever your total serum b12 result is. So yours is very low.

You must also take folate to utilise the B12.

Thank you Elliza, will take everything you said on board, my vitD was less than 5 and just finished loading dose so I need to get to grips with b12 now, had to pace myself mentally as the results were a shock but answered so much. Thank you again and my best wishes to you.
