Ferritin level 196.2 (20-150). Cant get GP appointment until end of the month. I have read all sorts of things about high ferritin and I am really worried. I also have high Anti-Thyroidperoxidase 215.3 (<34). It has been suggest there may be a link between these two results. As my knowledge is limited, I wondered if anyone can help?

High Ferritin (worried)
Hi I also have high ferritin level 198, been that level since May of last year. been to gp recently and she said it's nothing to worry about it has to be 250and above before they would start to investigate, and I haven't been taking supplements for iron, not sure I believe her thou.i would have liked to get iron panel done, hope you have better luck with your gp
Basil-567,
If you are not supplementing iron high ferritin can be due to infection or inflammation in the body. High thyroid peroxidase antibodies can cause inflammation.
Your ferritin isn't very elevated. Your GP might suggest doing a full blood count or may simply suggest retesting ferritin in a few months.
If it's any help I lowered my thyroid peroxidase and anti thyroglobulin antibodies by going completely gluten free. At first it was an experiment to see what would happen with a view to giving up if it didn't make any difference then over the last year they reduced so much that I'm going to stay gluten free.
Thank you very much. I am going to try the Gluten free approach and see what happens. Blessings
Thanks once again Fruitandnutcase. Thats worth knowing. Blessings
