Blood tests from Blue Horizon.

I have type I diabetes (25 years – no complications) started having symptoms in May with dizzy spells.

Now have very typical hypothyroid symptoms (hairloss, constipation, cold all the time, tingling hands and feet, also so very tired etc. etc.) and now have small swelling on right thyroid side of neck – occasional mind spasm pain radiating towards ear. No problems throat, airway or swallowing etc.

Saw GP on Monday who just told me to come back in two weeks if neck swelling doesn’t go down so decided to get tested with Blue Horizon.

When I go back to GP on Tuesday how best to approach the reluctance to refer and do anything. I’m so fed up after a year of battling the NHS for my Mum who was diagnosed eventually with Hashimotos encelopathy. Should I ask/demand B12 testing as also have burning feet occasionly and sore mouth, mouth ulcers etc.?

Many Thanks for any help.

Hi Kes8, welcome to the forum.

Are you taking anything for your thyroid yet? Your FT4 is very low. You do seem to be converting well, which is a blessing, but, if you're on levo, you really need an increase in dose.

For the high antibodies, a lot of people find that a 100% gluten-free diet helps to lower them. And taking 200 mcg selenium can help, too.

Yes, you should ask for a B12 test. And also, vit D, folate and ferritin. These are all likely to be low, and causing symptoms. :)

Thank you for your advice.

Not taking any type of thyroid medications only Insulin for diabetes and prochloroperzine for sickness/dizzy spells.

GP refused to test blood again even though the drug she prescribed for dizzy spells affects TSH. Yearly diabetes checks show that it has always been 3.5+.

Already follow a gluten-free diet after mum was diagnosed with Hashimotos Encelopathy and will definitely look into selenium.

Many thanks will ask for the blood tests.

Burning feet can be a combination of low B vitamins. This link is interesting on connection between low vitamin D, B vitamins and autoimmune diseases

Don't start supplementing any vitamins until tested first.

Though you could start selenium as they don't test that

Thank you for replying.

Will look into selenium and ask for the extra blood tests.
