Hi I'm new here had underactive thyroid for over 25 yrs I'm currently on 100mcg of thyroxine I always feel tired and have never felt any different does anyone else feel like this it really gets me down.

It sounds as though you may be under medicated or may have vitamin and mineral deficiences. If you post your recent thyroid results and ranges (the figures in brackets after results) members will advise whether you are optimally medicated. Also post any results and ranges you have for ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate which are commonly low or deficient in hypothyroid patients and cause fatigue among other things.

Hi newtonchang o yes I know all about the tiredness. I am experiencing exactly the same. In order for people to give you advice your blood test readings are useful. I have recently had a private blood test carried out by Blue Horizon. I have shown it to my GP who in turn is going to carry out his own blood tests for which I am awaiting the results. He is also going to run a test for Ceoliac disease as he said that can be a cause of tiredness. It would be a relief to find out what is causing my tiredness but the thought of it being ceoliac fills me with dread as I enjoy my food and having to follow a strict plain diet for the rest of my life will be so boring and tedious! Welcome to our forum and I'm glad you have joined.

You will learn a lot from our members who are very helpful. It would appear that the 40,000+ members on our forum have a problem recovering fully. Sometimes that's because doctors may have given us too low a dose which means our symptoms aren't relieved.

You need a new blood test and it should be the very earliest possible and fasting, although you can drink water. Also allow 24 hours between your last dose of levo and the test and take it afterwards.

Also levothyroxine should be taken on an empty stomach. Usually we take it first thing on rising with one full glass of water and waiting about an hour before eating. Or at bedtime as long as last eaten about 2.5 hours previously. Food interferes with the uptake.

Request a new blood test from GP. TSH, T4, T3, Free t4, Free T3 and antibodies. Also B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate as we can be deficient.

Your doctor may refuse to do them all but if you can afford it we have recommended labs which will do specific tests for hypothyroidism.

Get a print-out with the ranges from your surgery (some take a small sum for paper/ink).

Just a quick update I'm having vitamin D test in the morning after visiting the doctor today they have also referred me to the specialist at the hospital as they think I suffer sleep apnea also will let you know how I get on thanks for prompting the vitamin D test

Thanks everyone I have regular bloods done the surgery I'm at insists on them every 6 months I have just had them done and was told they were normal so I have complained again and am seeing a different doctor on Tuesday so hoping for an answer then but I will ask about my results then I can add them on here B12 is a problem in my family so I might mention this also thankyou all fingers crossed for some answers Tuesday

If you could put up your blood test results with the ranges (if you've not already done so) so that you can get some responses.

Will get them tomorrow off the nurse while I'm getting my bloods done as I don't know them at the moment just they say there normal
