Feeling tired: Well after a 25 mg reduction in... - Thyroid UK
Feeling tired
Hi Susan, so sorry to hear how you are feeling. Why were you reduced by 25mcg? Was it following recent blood results? Did you ask for a copy or note them down?
If this happened to me then I would phone doctor for a phone call back. Or get an appointment to be seen today. You need these symptoms urgently addressed. Query all this with GP asap. Urgent bloods and/or suggest return to former dose now.
Meanwhile I would try to act to treat the constipation now. As this will only get worse and effect your general health till you get correct dose back into your system.
How do you treat it? May I suggest drink lots of water, Take Lactulose medicine for at least 3 days and drink Fybogels every evening adding a little fresh orange juice to prevent it from going thick and setting before you can finish it.
Please forgive me if giving advice you don't need.
Don't be too upset by doctors to go back. Keep on at them till you get sorted. I would stay away when they offended me. But we have to rest and while then go back into battle !
Tell GP how you are feeling everything you posted here asap.
You could try Eurax cream for the itching.
I think that GP should prescribe all 3 Lactulose, Fybogels and Eurax to treat your symptoms while waiting for your usual dose to do its work. After all why should you pay?
Please don't take Laxido from GP.
It's not surprising you are fed up. I would be , and very angry.
Hope you get sorted quickly and return to better health soon.
A the best with GP. Be careful.
Love

why do you dislike laxido Mary?
Because it caused me harm. It is a laxative and should not be taken long term, in my opinion. Using laxatives long term can cause problems including dehydration.
In my case a GP (long time ago) changed my Fybogel prescription for Laxido saying it was "faster acting". It sure was. It moved stomach contents past stool in Caecum. I wondered why I felt hungry all the time and yet was still constipated. I am now wondering if stomach contents are pushed through stomach and small intestine quickly then might this affect absorbtion of nutrients?
I took the Fybogels/laxido at the time because I had to take cocodamol as well as ibuprofen for pain if I had to go anywhere. However I don't take any Fybogels or medicines for bowels now. I have muscle weakness. I cannot take codeine or iron as they stop bowel movement.
If anyone asked my advice on treating constipation I would suggest Lactulose medicine and then a Fybogel every evening especially if their diet is lacking fibre. Then gradually increase fruit & other desirable healthy foods in diet and drink plenty water. Also do regular pelvic floor exercises and if well enough specific exercises to firm up tiummy. Relaxation as you know is also vital.
I don't use laxatives and rarely analgesics.

Thank you Mary. My friend has been swapping and changing my dosage for over two years😣I have got an endo appointment for 21st June x
They should not adjust your dose according to the TSH which should be 1 or lower. They are so poorly trained with the result that patients suffer instead of alleviating symptoms and should disregard the TSH which, if low, they mistakenly believe will cause osteoporosis or heart attacks.
If you can get a print-out of your result with the ranges it will give members a better idea.
The TSH is good for identifying someone who is undiagnosed but not when they're on thyroid hormone replacements.
Hi I posted my results on here recently and was told gp had it wrong 😣
Did you consult your GP advising him you've had some responses from the NHS Choices for information/help on dysfunctions of the the thyroid gland, i.e. Thyroiduk.org.uk?
Do you have Hashimoto's? High thyroid antibodies. Also called autoimmune thyroid. Have these ever been tested?
If you have Hashimoto's then you really need to try gluten free diet for at least 3-6 months
What about levels of vitamin D, folate, B12 & ferritin
I saw in a previous post you say you are are supplementing D, magnesium, B complex and zinc
How much vitamin D, and have you got test results from before started and more recently
Yes I do have hashimoto. I take 1000 vitamin d B complex k2 zinc and magnesium. I ha e had levels tested but will on 21st june
So as you have Hashimoto's have you tried strictly gluten free?
Many of us find it really helps. Hashimoto's trashes gut function & in majority of us gluten is major issue, some might also/instead need to avoid dairy or nightshades (tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, aubergines)
Many find when they check vitamin D level, if supplementing with GP recommended dose of 800iu that they are still deficient
Autoimmune diseases seem to need or use lots of vitamin D.
Thank you. I am going to have everything checked and speaking to gp Wednesday then endo appointment 21st June. Thinking of just medicating myself if this continues
You need these vitamin levels very good first & sort food intolerances- usually Gluten Free.
Magnesium is good for constipation. I take magnesium citrate and it helps me
I have now seen my endo and he is happy for me to go back to 125/150 alternative days. He did full thyroid panel including T3 and he also doing tests for cushing's. X
