Have had ringing in my ears for almost 4 1/2 yrs 24/7, the essential oils I use have not helped, have tried chiropractor and my naturopathic dr has tried with laser and supplements, nothing has helped. I was diagnosed with Graves Disease in July 2007. Thanks

Srlenoue Certain vitamin deficiencies can be associated with ringing in the ears/tinnitus. Zinc deficiency may be a cause when it is age related, B12 deficiency is also a common cause. What supplements have you tried? Have you had vitamins and minerals tested?

Sadly all too many people - both thyroid sufferers and others - have tinnitus. Me included, since I was about 8, which is a long time ago.

I have never been able to identify anything that helps, or worsens, the tinnitus. Some others have found adequate thyroid hormone reduces the impact.

I end up trying to arrange a suitable level of sound around me that helps to mask the actual tinnitus.

I also have severe tinnitus and am going down the Vit B12 route to see if I can reduce it. The sister site, Pernicious Anaemia Society, will provide useful information on how to approach this, there are some very helpful and knowledgeable people on there.

How annoying is that, I have thyroid and B12 problems and my tinnitus is driving me up the wall, I've spoken to various Doctors about it over the years and no one has ever told me they are connected......... It's some comfort to find this out as I was getting quite concerned thinking I'd something else going on............ I'm so pleased I've read about the link.

I have pulsatile tinnitus whereby I hear my heartbeat throbbing in my ears, which is exceptionally frustrating. I have never been given a diagnosis of hypothyroidism (but have a diagnosis of ME, with all the hypo symptoms) so my GP referred me to an ENT consultant as this type of tinnitus has a specific cause. Not that they have found the cause yet.... although the hypo evidence is in front of their noses in my symptoms!

I have now been given hearing aids which deal with minor hearing loss, but more importantly, it drowns out the tinnutus to a large extent (though not entirely).

It may be worth talking to your GP about it and asking for an ENT referral.

I do intend to write a post on the forum about my experience as I thought that tinnitus couldn't be treated.

Hope this helps!

Hi, me too. Recently given an hearing aid which helps a little. I notice my noisy noises get worse of an evening. I have appointments with a lovely lady at the local ENT clinic. Relaxation also helps x
