Ringing ears.

Does anyone else have ringing in their ears - well tinnitus to give it its proper name?

I have not long been diagnosed with Graves and am on block and replace but my ears were ringing before I started the meds. I'm sure I can hear ok - I don't feel deaf.

Have had tinnitus for years, before i realised it was in my ears i used to think people were leaving there car engines running outside my house doh , i notice it comes on worse when i have a head cold, thankfuly mine isnt too loud, x x

I know its wild isn't it. just like you so often I have been lying in bed and thought I heard a van outside and either got up or (worse!) persuaded my husband to go and look. Sounds like it isn't going to go when my thyroid gets fixed then.

you never know, i dont know if mine came on because of my medication or not, hopefuly someone else can enlighten us xxx

I have a constant noise of air wooshing in my ears, it reminds me of when i used to see live music that was very loud, the following morning I would have this sound in my ears too. Now I have it constantly, it's not ringing as such, so I suppose I shouldn't moan.

Hope this will disappear following medication.

T3 helped my daughter when this was happening to her - she was on T4 only at the time.

I have Hyper and AI Thyroiditis and ringing ears definitely came along with thyroid problems. When other symptoms are bad the ringing are worse and when symptoms died down the ringing did as well..

I describe mine as that annoying squeak when the bathroom tap is left on slightly , its there all the time. Sometimes I don't think about it and other times I feel like it could crack me up !

Yes, I've had tinnitus for the last 4 years when my symptoms seemed to get worse. My dad has it so I thought - it's genetic and there's nothing I can do about it. I read there's a link between hypothyroidism and tinnitus. I've also read that there's a connection between low ferritin (iron stores) and tinnitus. And another connection with Hypothyroidism and low ferritin. Hm (Gordon Bennett) what else can I say. Who gets the prize for putting the last puzzle piece in? The human race I suppose. I remember reading somewhere that people suffering from thyroid problems are like the canary birds that coal miners used in the tunnels as an early detection system against life threatening gases such as carbon dioxide. Maybe what is causing Hashimoto's Thyroiditis will be an early detection system against environmental factors effecting our health. PS I seem to be able to ignore the tinnitus. But it's always there - to me it's how I imagine the sound of electricity flowing. Maybe similar to the sound of electrical items being left on but not in use. standby...

I have tinnitus quite badly since being diagnosed with thyroiditis. The doctore told me that this could be because the thyroid is inflamed and this puts pressure on the neck area and can result in tinnitus. It alwys seems worse when the thyroid is more inflmed.
