Getting T3 in Spain

Please can someone help? I was diagnosed years ago with hypothyroidism in the UK and took medication. Now all the symptoms have returned with a vengeance but I am unable to get my local Spanish doctor to do anything about it except give me T4 when T3 is what I need! Can someone tell me what I can buy in the farmacy which will do the job?

If it's t3 that you need I don't think there is anything over the counter here that will do much. Praps,if it's possible for you, a private doctor at private hospital might be able to prescribe but normal social gp's don't usually I believe.

We recently returned from holiday in Spain. While we were there, just out of curiosity, I asked in a pharmacy whether they sold T3. A very helpful pharmacist checked their computer and said they didn't but it showed as available in Portugal. I haven't checked this out as I am just on levo. 🌈

Marvellous isn't it? I wish we were close enough to pop over for the day or that we had visitors coming who could bring some over. I'm finding this so frustrating and it is so unnecessary. Typical Spain!

dragon31fly, I am living in Spain too since 15 years and have Hashimoto and hypo. Natural T3 us forbidden to sell in Spain. I ordered first Armour and now Erfa in Andorra pharmacies usually without prescription. They send it to Spain. Good luck!

Hello Almafo. Today I was given a script by a private Endo on Mallorca Island and couldn't, as he said, dispense it here in Spain. He gave me contact details of 2 pharmacies in Andorra saying I could fax it to them and they would send it to me. I would really appreciate if you would private message me as to exactly how you do this.

I have just seen your post (oops 3 years late!). I have put a post up my self a couple of days ago. I am currently living in the UK and I have taken Erfa thyroid meds for many years. I have also been prescribed Armour in the past. Either is fine and works well for me. I have the meds on prescription from my UK doctor.

I am considering moving to Spain either Galicia or the otherside Girona. I was wondering if you are still able to obtain your Erfa /Armour thyroid from pharmacies in Andorra and get it posted to Spain . Do you know of any sympathetic doctors in Spain who would continue to prescribe for me??

Hi there, unfortunately I no longer buy my NDT (not T3) in Andorra, because every time I did an order it was getting more expensive. The last order was from Austria, but it‘s the same over there, now the price has doubled... don’t know what to do in aprox 2 month when I need more, probably I will try to order in Germany, but I also work on healing my gut, which is the basic problem! When you will move to Girona, you will be very close to me😀. Let me know!🥰

Thank you so much for answering my post. I think the price of Erfa here in the UK is very expensive and I think Armour is even more these days. My prescription gives me 3 months supply and the last time I purchased it in early September it was £200 including £10 cost for my private scrip. How does that compare to Europe?

May I ask you please , have you encountered any problems with receiving your meds by post in Spain?? Because if post is alright then I think I will be OK.??

I read a little about the Coimbra protocol it sounds really interesting. I hope that it is working for you, a long haul, but worth it to be healed I think.

Is Girona a good place to live on a permanent basis I wonder?? Looking forward to an adventure, but not in the hunting down of NDT !!!

Usually a friend or family member brings my NDT, when visiting me, but once I ordered it by post in Germany and there was no problem at all.

My last order from Austria was 360 tabs with 2 grain for 200€, but they doubled price starting 2019...

The Coimbra Protocoll helped me to push my Vit D3 level which was really helpful, since 2 months ago I lowered my VitD dosis to only 20.000 IU daily, which is working quite good. My thyroid antibodies are coming down, but I also started with meditation and breathing exercises, don’t know what exactly is helping, but will continue on this path.

I love Girona! I live halfway between Girona and Barcelona. You have the Costa Brava very close and also the Pyrenees! Very good living quality! Girona is like a small village, but you have all amenities from a big city and Barcelona is quite close too. And a nice place with historical buildings and middle age old town!

I went to Galicia in August and liked it very much, but for daily life I would prefer Girona, definitely!

My doctor who prescribes is German. In Spain NDT is forbidden to sell and any doctor I visited even knows NDT...

Sorry this is not much help but I have just returned from an Endo consultation in Palma Mallorca today where I was given a script for T3 and told I could dispense it in the pharmacy round the corner. Oh so no so !!!!!! The pharmacist had not even heard of it, nor had 5 others I tried! I feel your frustration. Trying to secure a regular supply of T3 is taking up every minute of my life. A bit like finding Nemo.

So sorry Baobabs, I just saw you messages from 8 months ago! Hopefully you had solved your problem in the meantime! I had been ordering in Germany, Austria and Netherlands, but they are all catching up with delivery problems and prices are climbing up extremely. Don’t know where this ends...

Yes the T3 situation is becoming a bit like an oasis in the desert. I sometimes have to wait several weeks from my supplier. Dare I mention that this situation appears to be exacerbated by the ongoing Brexit scenario.

Yes unfortunately this will be a big negative point. We will see, what will happen! I will try to cure the root source and hopefully get the thyroid and gut working properly again and therefore will not need thyroid meds anymore, 😏. Have a nice day

I heard from different people, that it worked and they could eliminate all thyroid meds. Additionally I started with the Coimbra Protocol 6 montha ago, to bring in remission autoimune illnesses, si I will give it a try!
