ellj Are those GP tests or private ones?

Do you have TSH, FT4 and FT3 tests also? What about Vit D, B12 and folate? All need to be optimal for thyroid hormone to work properly.

Should there be a decimal point somewhere in the range for ferritin because it looks very unusual especially with your actual result. Normally ferritin would be optimal half way through range but it's not possible to comment accurately without clarification of the range.

Your TPO antibodies are over range therefore positive for autoimmune thyroid disease aka Hashimoto's.

To help reduce antibody attacks you should adopt a strictly gluten free diet. Gluten contains gliadin which triggers antibody attacks. Many members find a gluten free diet helps enormously, some also need to be dairy free. Supplementing with selenium also helps reduce the attacks.

Hello, thank you for your reply.

I will add more results...they were done privately.

TSH 0.007 ( 0.270-4.200 )

Free thyroxine 22.47 (12.000-22.000)

T4 6.24. ( 3.100-6.800 )

Thyroid piroxidase. 72.2 ( 0.000-34.000 )

Thyroglobulin antibody 113.600 ( 0.000-115.000)

Vit B12. 971.4. ( 191.000-663.000 )

Folate 5.46 ( 4.600 - 18.700 )

Ferritin 64.68 ( 13.000-150.000 )

Thank you for looking at this, I have PA and get B12 injections.

I have been told for arou d 20 yrs tht I am Hypothyroid...no one said what type of thyroid disease. I take 125mcg per day and gp allows for fact I feel better on high dose so has not reduced my dose for several years.

A few yrs ago I needed Ferritin infusions for 6 months.

Truly appreciate any help here.

Thank you.

ellj You are lucky to have a GP who is willing to keep you on that dose, there is no need to reduce it anyway as your FT3 is in range and that is the important one - something most doctors don't seem to know.

Your B12 is being taken care of so that's good, but are you also taking a B Complex to balance the B vits? Thorne Basic B or Jarrows B Right are both good ones and contain 400mcg methylfolate which will help increase your low folate level, that needs to be at least half way through range so 12+. Take B Complex with food, no later than lunchtime as B vits can be stimulating and you don't want it to affect your sleep.

Your ferritin needs a push up to half way through range 81.5. Not a very long way to go, but an important increase nevertheless. You could eat iron rich food (I eat liver regularly which has helped my ferritin level) or take Solgar Gentle Iron which has 20-25mg elemental iron. Take each iron tablet with 1000mg Vit C to aid absorption and help prevent constipation. Take iron 4 hours away from Levo and other meds/supplements as it affects absorption of them.

Have you had Vit D tested? That's another one usually low. If your GP won't test it thenYou can get it done with an easy at home fingerprick blood spot test from City Assays vitamindtest.org.uk/vitamin... . If that isn't between 100-150 come back and supplements can be suggested.

Getting all your vits/mins to optimal levels should help generally but you must also address the Hashimoto's and give a gluten free diet a good go, it can take months to feel it's helping. Also add in the selenium.

Add in the supplements one at a time, giving each one sweet to ten days before adding in then next one, that way you'll know if you have any adverse reactions and what has caused them.

Give a shout if I've missed anything :)
