Hi guys can anyone help me out with these results? This is a repost from the graves uk site as I am desperate for more info. TSH less than 0.01, free T4 16.2, T3 5.5 I have been diagnosed with graves disease since April 2016. I was very ill at that point and my meds were propranolol 10mg 3 x daily and carbimazole 30mg daily, I was making good progress so I was told to stop propranolol and also reduce my carbimazole to 10mg daily. I was feeling so much better that about a month ago I stopped taking any meds as I found I was putting on weight. The result mention above is the first one since stopping. Does that mean that I don't have graves anymore?

Loza73,

You will always have Graves but you may have remission from hyperthyroidism after re-regulating your thyroid gland with Carbimazole. I think you've been premature in stopping 10mg Carbimazole as your TSH remains suppressed at <0.01. Typically a patient will take Carbimazole for 12-18 months before attempting remission. FT4 and FT3 appear to be okay but I would need to see the lab ref ranges (figures in brackets after results) to be sure.

Hi,

Graves is caused by autoimmune malfunction. Your body produces antibodies which attack the thyroid gland, causing overproduction of thyroid hormone and speeding up your metabolism. These antibodies will always be part of your physiology now and will ebb and flow, continuing to affect your thyroid gland for life sadly.

With blood results as yours you've clearly been poorly. Two things can happen now.

1)your thyroid meds over-correct, slowing your thyroid function too much

2) your thyroid gland 'burns out'- that just means the gland itself stops working.

The TSH level is very low suggesting you shouldnt stop taking meds - it can be a bit perilous as thyroid storm - sudden acceleration in thyroid hormone - can occur.

I find this subject difficult and cant give you a better explanation (i have graves idiocy lol) but id ask to see someone.

You mention weight gain - whats it gone from and up to? Gaining weight is normal - most of us have shed weight suddenly and if for any protracted time, itllbe considerable, so unless its a huge amount i wouldnt worry.

Hope this helps x

Thank you @+clutter and +@deesbees for the quick replies. It's just that I have felt so well even though I have been told by the endo that I would be on carbimazole until October next year. The weight gain surprised me as I enjoyed losing it before my diagnosis, but on doing research after I seemed to be putting on a bit of weight, I found that the culprit most likely was the carbimazole. I know that this a terrible illness but with all the hair loss, vomiting, anger and confusion to name but a few......I was hoping that I could at least control my weight.
