I've been on thiroyd for about 3 months. I'm up to 3.5 grains. When I was on 2.5 I had blood tests and my FT3 was in range but low. I'd been on 100 mcg of Levo before, so if the 60mcg equivalent is anywhere near correct I was already taking the equivalent of 150mcg and still under medicated. Has anyone else found this? My iron, folate, ferritin etc are all fine, so I should be absorbing the T3 ok.
Anyone else on Thiroyd does it equate to old Le... - Thyroid UK
Anyone else on Thiroyd does it equate to old Levo dose?
Kathyhandis,
1 grain Thiroyd contains 35mcg T4 and 8,31mcg T3 which is equivalent to 60mcg Levothyroxine, so 3.5 grains is equivalent to 210mcg Levothyroxine.
If your FT3 was low on 2.5 grains presumably it was also low on 100mcg Levothyroxine?
My FT3 was 3.8 which is lower than what it was when I was on Levo. And FT4 was 6.9 - very much lower
Kathy,
I think after being so ill on Levo, there is a time where our bodies may require more meds than previous. Hormones take ages to rebalance as are dependant on many others.
I switched from T4//T3 to an equivalent dose of NDT two months ago, and it wasn't enough. After a dose raise, now my bloods show I am over range in T3 so will be reducing.
There is speculation about how much T3//T4 is in NDT and our bodies appear to process it differently to synthetic meds so a like-for-like comparison may not be true.
Your blood results and how you feel are the most important. Additionally monitoring temps and pulse can give you confidence that you are heading in the right direction.
