Went to Endo today having blood test results all within range TSH 0.35 (0.25-5.0) FT3 5.0 (3.5-6.5) FT4 22.3 (9.0-23.0) I've been on 150mcg levothyroxine.
He has discharged me back to GP with next blood test in 6 months. Problem is that I feel very hypo which I explained to him but he's uninterested. So after all I'm going to start the liothyronine now I. Will start by reducing levothyroxine to 125mcg and take 10mcg liothyronine then see how I feel. I'm reluctant to go against consultant but he was just pleased to be shot of me. He did admit that he recently (after he took me off liothyronine) find out that "some London financiers had exploited a loophole in the law for profit and thereby the price of liothyronine has increased" He also said "price wasn't a factor when I took you off liothyronine a few months ago, but now it would be" I don't believe him.

Your results and specifically the T3 level is good ...... so if this were me, I would be looking into possible iron and nutrient deficiencies as these could stop thyroid hormone replacement from working well.
Ask your GP to test Vit B12, Vit D, folate and ferritin and post any results complete with ranges (numbers in brackets) for members to comment.
If you continue with your addition of T3, you will need to reduce Levo as T4 is near top of range. Your suggestion to lower by T4 dose by 25mcg and introduce 10 mcg T3 is good. However, I would start on 5mcg T3 for a week and if no unwanted side effects are felt introduce another 5mcg the following week. Record temps and pulse and retest bloods in six weeks. You may need to reduce Levo further.
A headache, inner heat and fast pulse are common symptoms felt by some members when initially introducing T3.
thankyou radd that is an excellent and timely reply. I took 5mcg liothyronine this afternoon and I have all three initial symptoms you mentioned. Was starting to think I have got it wrong lol. I will talk to my gp about the tests you suggested too. Thanks again
yes I will stay on 5mcg liothyronine with 125mcg levothyroxine for a while and see what my bloods are in a few months. I'm thinking that at least I have a baseline in that my levels are okay on 150mcg levothyroxine so I can revert to that if things start to go pear shaped.
Thankyou for bringing this up because I was completely unaware! Surely the endocrinologist would not have discharged me knowing I had symptoms of hypothyroidism and not considered the kind of condition you mentioned??? Unless he thought I was lying! I know I need to be careful with this so as not to trigger atrial fib (I had this after thyrotoxicosis) Now I have no thyroid gland to go toxic but must be wary of too fast heart beat..
I think main stream doctors usually don't believe in thyroid hormone resistance so it isn't surprising that an endo wouldn't think of it or suspect it.
So unbelievably today I get a letter from gp stating that this blood test (taken more than a month ago) showed a "higher than normal blood sugar level" Not a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes but a warning of "prediabetes". I mean the gp never mentioned it and the endo never mentioned it and I've seen both since well after this test!! WTF!!! Now I'm so confused!
