shelf life of armour thyroid
I can't tell you specifically how long Armour Thyroid lasts. But I take pig thyroid tablets (not Armour, I take a different brand). The length of time the tablets last will depend on how they have been stored.
They need to be stored in a dry, cool, dark place.
I wrap my own very, very securely to keep them bone dry and free of condensation and keep them in the freezer. I take out enough for about 2 months at a time. I would be happy to take 5 year old pills if I knew they had been stored well.
thank you for replying.. i have armour from dec 13 and jan 14 its in it own brown bottle and i keep it in my bedside drawer (therefore in the dark.. it only has the date of issue on it no expiry date. really could be using it but a bit worried to do so. even though its precious as my doctor wont prescribe it since doctor skinner died.
Dunno but I always keep a little in the freezer! In case of emergencies.
Has anyone used it OUT OF THE FREEZER? Intuitively this really sounds 'just plain wrong' I know someone who has recently frozen a lot... Once I read on the Forest site that it could last for ages - well beyond the date - BUT, I've just read this on a site:
"Natural thyroid should not be stored in the refrigerator or freezer. Condensation forms, which affects potency. Store it at room temperature: 59 to 86 deg F, in a dry place away from direct light. Avoid bathroom storage. If you buy larger supplies - 90 days or more - it may be wise to open that bottle as few times as possible. Say... Transfer a month's supply to a smaller bottle, and then fill a pill box with a 1 or 2-week supply from that. Exposing the larger supply to air on a daily basis by removing one pill at a time is probably not a good idea."
Happy to hear that you've used it and it still worked fine. xox
If you froze each tablet completely separately, then it might make little difference.
If you have to open any container and take one tablet out, and leave the rest, the information about condensation, etc., applies.
Assuming you started with 100 tablets in a single container, in refrigerator or freezer, you take one tablet out every day, then by the end of three months you could have a lot of condensation affecting the last few tablets.
Thank you - I'm just concerned that someone has been informed that freezing is fine - I had heard the complete opposite, i.e. that just within (maybe a little under or over) the upper/lower boundaries of the stated temps is as far as it goes. I'm just concerned that 2,000 will go to waste, all frozen in two tubs.
Hey, I've enough of my own junk to deal with... thanks again
