I'm new here, and welcome reponses to the heading in the mail.
I have been on Thyroxine since April, had three tests, 11.5 TSH, 3.75, and now 1.75. I'm not tired any more, but mood swings etc. are very bad. I have an qppt. to see my GP.

So did you have increases in doses after those tests? 50 mcg is a starter dose, so if you're still on that, you could very well be under-medicated.
Have you had your vit d, vit B12, folate and ferritin tested? These all need to be optimal - not just in range - for your body to be able to use the hormone you're giving it.
No other tests done. 50 mg dosage stayed the same. I was told that 3.75 was in the "normal" range.......seems to be a general term.
It's in range, sure. But, there's nothing normal about it. A normal TSH is around 1. You are hypo as soon as you hit 3. So, you are well hypo with that result and you should have had an increase a long time ago. I'm afraid you're going to have to start standing up to your doctor, not just blindly accepting whatever he says. If he thinks he can get away with maltreating you, he will, he won't care. If you show him you're on the ball, he might think twice before coming out with rubbish like that!
You are suffering from anxiety and depression because that high TSH means that your FT3 is low. And it's low T3 that causes symptoms like that. If your doctor will not treat you properly, can you not change doctors? You probably will never get well with that one, he's keeping you sick by keeping you on a starter dose.
Hi, I too have suffered from terrible mood swing, my poor husband too the brunt of it when I felt I could go absolutely hysterical over stupid things! Up and down, horrible. Even got these Kalm tablets (which didn't do any good) and all sorts. It went on for more then two years for me before things started to level out. I was on 50mcg Levo then 75 after second check back in 2012. Been on this dose since. Dr says bloods are good... It too sooo long for all my symptoms to improve I thought they never would but I am feeling better now, not perfect, not my old self any more but fair. Hang in there, I am sure you'll get lots of support, advice and inspiration to find a way to getting better from the folks here.
