vitamin d supplementation in hypothyriodism

i am hypothyriod patient and is on thyroxine.My TSH level is 2.5.My vit d level is 9(20-50).My endo advice me 300000iu vit d injection.After 15 days i felt nervousness.What may be the reason.Should i take vit d orally?

The problem with a mega dose is you don't know how it will affect you, if like me you can't tolerate vitd in any form a huge one off dose would not be good. My vitd was 12, Endo said she would normally prescribe injections but as I knew I was intolerant she said not, I take 800iu as and when I can manage.

You may be better trying a low dose to see how you get on.

I reacted badly when first tried vitamin d as it revealed I also had low magnesium too. It was this that made me realise I had a malabsorption issue and probably gluten intolerance (I had no obvious gut issues and had been tested negative for coeliac) .......now recently got official diagnosis after endoscopy of "biological" gluten intolerance (similar to coeliac)

After bad reaction to low dose vit D (1000iu) - palpitations and extreme bone pain. I started on magnesium first for about a month. Then added Vit D3 soft gel tablets, slowly upping to 6000iu. But my blood test after a month showed only mild improvement, even with lots of sunbathing too. (Sunbathing as recommended by my gastroenterologist 😎)

It seems I was struggling to absorb Vit d from tablets. I have recently swooped to oral spray, after advice from friend who is endoscopy nurse, used to dealing with coeliac patients. Also asked advice on here. This, for me seems, much more effective.

But we are all different, and my Vit D level was not apparently as low as yours.

since I went gluten free in May this year, I have had significant leg bone pain and walking initially very difficult. This is a rare, but common rare, reaction I gather. Pain and walking are improving slowly, apparently typically takes 6 months to fade entirely. I am extremely careful to be 100% gluten free.

Hard to say whether it is the vitD injection or highish TSH which is making you nervous.

I would wait 4 weeks after the injection and have vitD retested before supplementing orally.

TSH 2.51 is a little high for someone taking Levothyroxine. Most people will be comfortable with TSH 1.0 or lower.
