On my Blue Horizon blood test results, under " biochemistry" it says my CRP should be less than 5.0, and it is (just) at 4.40mg/L. But what is CRP????!!!!

Ok thanks. Is mine a good result then??!!

Hi, yes, yours is within normal limits.

When it is raised, it can be from something as simple as a cold, a bruise, etc.

Yours is perfectly normal - I wish I had your level

Mine is 20 . The GP is going to test me for autoimmune diseases.

C reactive protein is an inflammatory marker it is raised in an infection or during any process such as an autoimmune reaction that causes inflammation. It is not of use on its own it cannot differentiate amongst inflammatory causes, it is just a marker that inflammation is present. So therefore if a person had raised thyroid antibodies but a normal white cell count with a raised crp it would suggest an increased probability of an autoimmune cause, but cannot definitively rule out infection. Hope that helps.

Like Lizzie says it is an indication of inflammation. I get it done for my inflammatory arthritis although it is done along with other things when I do a Blue Horizons Thyroid 11 fingerpick test.

When I saw my doctor last month, she told me that my CRP is usually 18 to 20 (i.e. every blood test I have had for the last few years) and that it showed that I always seemed to have some kind of infection, but as I felt generally well, she was not too bothered.

I have a similar number, and no idea what the issue is. I get the impression that it needs to be much higher to cause real concern.

It seems that way, from people's responses on here.

Thank you, SilverAvocado. I have another blood test next week, so it will be interesting to see the figure then.

I'm just having a quick search on CRP, my 20 yr old daughter has been unwell for months, physically and mentally, persuaded her to do a BH test as I wanted to rule out thyroid (like the rest of the family) and check B12 levels. Her thyroid looks fine, B12 is low but CRP is 39.5. She does not seem concerned at all but I am trying to get her back to GP, it sounds WAY too high to me :(
