What does this mean?

My first set of results is after 2 months of 50mg levothyroxine treatment. The second set of results is after stopping the levothyroxine for 6 weeks.

I still feel awful and all the symptoms of having an under active thyroid.

Beckymarie1986,

Did you ask your endo why he has stopped 50mcg Levothyroxine and what he is looking for? I suspect he may have been investigating pituitary dysfunction causing secondary hypothyroidism as your TSH has not been high on either test.

LFT is a liver function blood test.

Creatinine and Electrolytes are kidney function tests.

TSH and FT4 you know are thyroid.

They stopped it as suspected something wrong with my pituitary gland. My original blood test before any levothyroxine showed me T4 at 8 but TSH normal. I have no idea if that means I have an under active thyroid or not. i feel crap xx

Beckymarie1986,

It would help if lab ref ranges were on the results. If your T4 was below range and TSH was low-normal and pituitary is not dysfunctional you either have isolated TSH deficiency or it is possible there is hypothalmic dysfunction (tertiary hypothyroidism). In any case, if T4 is below range you need Levothyroxine to raise it.

I know the T4 range was in between 10 and 25 so I'm just in the normal, only just.

I feel awful. I just spoke to the consultant who said my results are normal so I'm fine, just take a multi vitamin. I'm sat here in tears

Beckymarie1986,

Did you feel any better on 50mcg Levothyroxine?

Yes most definitely. I lost weight, didn't feel as tired and cold all the time. Generally happier xx

Beckymarie1986,

If the endo doesn't reinstate the 50mcg after concluding his investigations you might want to consider self medicating. You can write a post asking members to PM you sources where to obtain Levothyroxine without prescription.

I'm seeing my Dr next week and when I spoke to him on the phone,he said that if I feel better on the levothyroxine then there should be no reason why I can't continue. I have an appointment next Friday to discuss. I'm really angry that the Endo has just brushed me off like this though. I may have to self medicate if dr refuse levothyroxine. Thanks so much for your help x

Many doctors only look at numbers but ignore all of our clinical symptoms. I doubt they could name one symptom in any case. I have been treated by doctors who took notice of my symptoms and asked questions. All these good doctors have retired or died now.
