Hello was given a ten day course of antibiotics for a throat infection. I finished the course still have a sore throat and went back to the doctors as I now have a swollen painful tongue. She said it something vital called Glostisis. Is this anything to do with my Thyroid ?
Glostisis : Hello was given a ten day course of... - Thyroid UK
Glostisis
Viral ,oops not vital sorry.
MIckeyrow This might help medlineplus.gov/ency/articl... It could very well be something to do with your throat infection, but look at the other causes too.
painful swollen tongue is also a symptom of B12 deficiency. Some anti-biotics can affect your B12 levels- but can never remember which ones of the top of my head - might be worth double checking which one you were using and see if there are any known interactions with B12 - There is a strong overlap between symptoms of B12 deficiency and thyroid and the two often occur together to make things even more complicated ... add in that the tests for B12 deficiency are not very good and that GPs aren't aware of this and the chances of a deficiency being picked up are starting to get really remote.
Hello again still ongoing 3 lots Antibiotics Yellow Tablets then liquid to squish around and swollow the antibiotics with Penicillin. Blood test done as still sore throat but Tongue issue has calmed . Now give Fluconazale after blood test and throat swab I have a copy of the blood test doesn't mean a thing really confused how long one can have a sore throat . Thank you
fluconazole is an anti-fungal - so may be that they now think it is a fungal infection rather than bacterial - which would explain why the antibiotics didn't seem to do much.
Unfortunately you can have a sore throat for considerable length of time - it would be a symptom of the infection. I'd suggest that you speak to a pharmacist about what might be appropriate to use as an anaesthetic if the it is bad - and make sure they are aware of any other medication that you are on - or speak to your doctor.
Unfortunately it is really easy to pick up a fungal infection, eg by breathing in a spore whilst you are doing some gardening. Here's hoping that the antifungal does the trick.
Hello I still need to check the interaction between the antibiotics and B12. Still not got rid of it now the Doctors given me Co-Amoxiclav which has Penicillin. The Doctor said if it still doesn't clear he will look down my throat with the Camera. I will have a look at the interaction as advised, thanks again for all the support and help. Have a good day!
