Hi I have multipule nodules on both sides of thyroid, have had basic tests done which showed b12 was low everything else was "within range" dr refusing to do any further tests till I see endo in sept, so I've been supplementing with life plan b12 in the meantime but still seem to be low any advice on what else I can take to boost me up. These are the recent results from the horizon blood test can any body else help point me in the right direction.
Blood test results.: Hi I have multipule nodules... - Thyroid UK
Blood test results.
What strength are the tablets? As far as I can see, they do 1000 mcg or 25 mcg, neither or which are enough for a B12 that low.
In fact, I can't find much info about them at all. Is it methylcobalamin? You really need 5000 mcg daily. And with that, you should take a B complex with methylfolate, because your folate is a bit low, too. And all the Bs need to be balanced.
Don't expect much help from your endo with the B12. They know very little about nutrients. He'll probably sais it's 'fine', because it's in range.
Is that your first thyroid blood test? If not, how does it compare with others? You don't appear to have Hashi's, which is one good thing. Are you on any thyroid hormone replacement? If so, I think you need an increase. If not, then your bloods look euthyroid, and any symptoms could be due to the low B12.
Don't worry about the nodules, most people have them. It's only if they are large that they are cause for concern.
greygoose It's cyanocobalamin ebay.co.uk/itm/Lifeplan-Vit...
Sarahp41 Get yourself either Jarrows or Solgar sublingual methylcobalamin lozenges 5000mcg. And because you're taking B12 you'll need to take a B Complex to balance the B vitamins. You need to get your B12 up to 1000 which is recommended by the Pernicious Anaemia Society.
Your folate is very low so that needs addressing. If you get Thorne Basic B or Jarrows B Right, both of those are a good B Complex and contain 400mcg of folate. Your folate needs to be at least half way through the range so that's a minimum of 27.
Methyl guard plus has both b12 and folate. It's made by Thorne research a very good product. I use it and my b12 levels went up to 1000. Also there is a health unlocked site pernicious anemia which is just like this site. Many knowledgable people on there. Also take a b complex to balance b vitamins. Hope this helps feel better.
Sarah,
Your results show you are euthyroid and negative for Hashimotos.
Members take Vit B12 as Methylocobalamin which is a form easier to absorb and utilise. Folate (B9) works with vitamin B12 to help create, develop and regenerate red blood cells and make iron work properly and can be supplemented as Methylfolate, together with a B Complex.
Most nodules and swellings are harmless, but it is always best to have them checked. Your endo will organise an Ultrasound scan and possibly FNA (fine needle aspiration.)
Ask for homocysteine and MMA to be tested. Also intrinsic factor antibodies and parietal cell antibodies (to eliminate PA) and Vit D to be tested.
A B12 deficiency can cause many of the symptoms you describe in your previous post..
Thank yoynfor yoyr reply, I've had a ultrasound done and said that the thryoid is enlarged and i have multipule nodules but they don't seem to want to do anything else hopefully I will get a good endo who will help with these tests as Dr won't do anything else now till I have seen them so just trying to help myself in the meantime. Maybe my issues are down to the b12 deficiency which is obviously having a knock on effect.
What about your vitamin d level? Also very important to check.
Blue horizon may be able to do, if they still have your blood. Or city assay can do -£28
