Shingles vaccine

Hi

I have been getting recurring shingles for the past two years.

Doctors refuse vaccine because of my age (nearly 51)

Has anyone had the vaccine ? And benefited?

Many thanks

You are too young!

See this NHS page

nhs.uk/conditions/vaccinati...

I looked into this recently when grandson had chickenpox. I found that I could have it if I paid for it. Ask at your surgery - mine referred me to another local surgery. After discussion with the nurse I didn't have it, as you don't get it from someone with chickenpox apparently. I'll wait until I'm 78.

Google for shingles vaccine - it seems that in the States it's approved for people over 50, but usually recommended for over 60s.

Thanks Anthea55 yes I was told they don't give it to younger people..however this is affecting my life..am getting it every couple of months now and it's hard going to work and coping with this..plus I have no thyroid and that effects me too,

I will ask again.

I am Hopi g to hear from people who have had it and whether it's helped them.

Many thanks for the link as well.

I had shingles then got a shot as my age became'right' for nhs schedule. It has not reoccurred ( yet ) so I hope the shot is working as it took ages to recover from the mild case I had.

Hi lidoplace..thank you...yes i consider my shingles 'mild' in the sense that it covers a relatively small area compared to many that have this but the overall effect in my system is still debilitating..thanks for your reply. As there are so many who seem to be getting shingles younger than the NHS requirement i wish they would reconsider their policy!!

My grandfather's fatal heart attack was brought on by shingles. Being too young for the NHS injection, I paid @£100 privately - considered it a good investment.

Hi Tippet18 am so sorry to hear about your grandfather...i know its really horrible especially for older people. I am going to ask yet again about getting the vaccine otherwise i will have to save up!

.... you may wish to check to see if there is aluminium in the vaccine. It is regularly used to speed up the immune reaction - but not good for the brain.
